I got to talk with the defendant's lawyer and he said they were willing to settle for $25k with the plaintiff but they turned it down just the previous week. They plaintiff wanted the $125k. I could not stop laughing, some people are just so stupid

My company had a legal dispute with a client who would not pay us the full amount we billed. They made a bogus claim that our services were faulty. We threatened to sue, then they threatened to sue us. We (my partners) pussied out and said. "Let's just drop it." The client would not let it go and made a claim against us. It went to arbitration, and we were awarded full payment.

My partners wussed out and won anyway. The client could have walked away from the whole thing without paying their bill but they wanted to be tough guys. I'm the hero of that story, but I won't tell you of the times I got us into hot water.

I am very surprised he is not playing. Barbe likes to win and some will do anything to win.

it is a little shocking that Cecchini didnt shank the coach himself to get this deal back in line.

I’d imagine that he’s toast no matter what. They are probably thinking that if he wins a suit it clears his name enough to give him a chance. After what he did, I’m not sure if a JUCO team would even take a chance.

There are like 400 JUCO baseball programs out there. His agent would find him a landing spot somewhere. It might be in BFE and not at one of the typical JUCO powerhouses, but someone would take a flyer on him with enough assurances from his agent that he's not going to cause problems.

ETA: I don't think a 4 year program is in his future at the moment. JUCO is likely his best option.

Was about to say JUCO programs LOVE kids who slip through like this and could end up there. If hes not in jail plenty of programs will take a shot on him.

Again if he just doesnt sign for whatever bare minimum a MLB team might offer him come July.

So did he just pull the pocket knife out or pull a knife on someone? Because my definition of pulling a knife on someone is blade open with intent.
Having a weapon on school premises is bad enough, might even be enough to warrant an expulsion, I don’t know.
From all the rumors it sounded like he pulled it out with the blade open, like a threat, on the coach, but from that wording he just pulled it out, closed, and was tackled.
Kid, fricked up, but I doubt he’s a threat or intended to stab someone. He made a mistake, it’s going to cost him a ton, I’d say the lesson was learned. I hate when people think something like this should follow him around and his life should be over. Give him a second chance and let it go.

That is the most asinine excuse I’ve ever read to attempt to cover his tracks lmao. Wanted to show him a souvenir and present it like it could be dangerous in the wrong hands…

Who the frick would ever believe that

Isn't the strength coach a relative of the stud freshman commit? if so, he is far more important than Victorian at this stage and we should aim to keep him as happy as possible

Also I haven't read the entire pleading and with SFP saying it deals with due process, you'd have to think that Barbe would file summary judgment on the matter if they had a rule that simply stated "no weapons at school or you're expelled"

ETA - is this in the 14th?

What was the "threat" the strength coach made?

No summary judgment because there would never be a scenario where material facts weren't in dispute.

The trial is already set for 3/14

Unless he used the wrong pronouns, Oregon State will take him.

You must have missed some news about LSUs coaching staff to be making this joke.

i was told he pulled the blade but I mean that's coming from people that would also have reason to make it look worse. there were only 5 people in the room and only they know the truth

as far as what griffin said... not worse that 99% of the things most of us were told in HS by coaches.

in the end...the state is still going to delay the hearing until after baseball season and he brought a weapon on school which usually results in expulsion.

guess we will see if the whole "its on video" stuff is correct.
