Not sure where you are seeing that but here is an article by 247 from literally 2 days ago that says LSU has one more spot remaining. Again, Matthew brune with on3 is the only one to even mention a self imposed sanction

LINK

And as has been stated before, even if Cook does not get his waiver and is forced to sit out a year, he still counts towards the overall scholarship total, which would make reaching out to other portal targets pointless unless you have the full 13 scholarships

Did you not read Glen West's May 11th article?

"With a one scholarship ban that was self imposed for this year, the roster will be capped at a 12 scholarship limit."

Once again, please post where you got that from. This is Glens Twitter post from yesterday literally saying that we are still looking for a pick up in the portal

We might we either looking to dump a current player, or, if Cook doesn't get a waiver he might just turn pro.

Don't look now, but On3 declared LSU one of the winners from this year's portal cycle. LINK

quote:

LSU was one of the worst teams in the SEC last season, the roster needed an overhaul, and that is just what head coach Matt McMahon has done. Not only was he able to overhaul the roster, four of the five transfers he brought in are all Louisiana natives. Point guard Jalen Cook started his career at LSU. He transferred to Tulane, where he was first-team All-American Conference for the past two seasons. Now the Walker, Louisiana native, is the No. 2 point guard in the transfer portal and is back with the Tigers.

Carlos Stewart was the No. 6 shooting guard in this cycle. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native was first-team All-WCC this year after averaging 15.2 points and shooting 40.3 percent from three. Also from Baton Rouge and a former high school teammate of Carlos Stewart, Jordan Wright averaged 10.6 per game last season and has scored 1,182 career points at Vanderbilt. Will Baker is 6-foot-11 and a former top-50 recruit. He averaged 13.6 last season, and Hunter Dean, another Louisiana native, is veteran depth up front.

This was the same optimistic stuff being written about last year's transfers and recruits in the media. Time will tell.

These paid sites don't want to piss off the fans that pay, the coaches that they get information from, and other people surrounding the programs. One rarely gets an accurate assessment from them. It is the same as the "gurus" who analyze stocks who want to maintain access to the company insiders.

Considering the list was "transfer portal winners and losers" not quite sure you're "theory" holds true

If this article gave props to Will Wade everyone of his azz kissers would have been all over it. But since it’s giving our coach credit then they crap on it. How sad!

They still ranked LSU's class #28, and several of the teams that LSU needs to move ahead of to get out of the cellar had much higher rated transfer classes. Baker won't come close to replacing KJ but the transfer guards should all be upgrades. It still looks like LSU will be in the bottom 1/3 of the conference next season, which will actually be an improvement if they are on the competitive side of the bottom 1/3.

On3 has us ranked at #28 in part due to their algorithm to determine rankings. It's a comparison of incoming ratings vs outgoing ratings. So a team that adds 1 player in the portal but loses none may be ranked higher than a team that adds 5 players but loses 5. In comparison, 247 has us at #8. Regardless, no one will be able to judge this team solely on a platforms rankings. Gotta just have cautious optimism and wait to see the on court results

Update on the self imposed sanctions: was able to speak to someone connected to the program and lsu did in fact reduce their scholarships from 13 to 12 for the 23-24 season but they are continuing to reach out to players in the portal. The only reason I can think that they are continuing to speak to players in the portal is what another poster said and that it's a contingency plan for Cook not getting a waiver and going to the draft

I think someone on on3 also mentioned they might take one of the transfers as a Walkon. Supplement him with nil deals. One of the hometown guys I would guess. Not sure if that is accurate.

That would make since as well. I've kind of wondered if we'd eventually see players who'd be on scholarship otherwise take a walkon spot and just have school paid through NIL

I wonder if a guy like Wright could get some really good academic scholarships to supplement the academic scholarship.

As far as the portal class debate, no doubt LSU got more talented players than it lost, assuming they actually get the best player on campus. The question (other than cook’s eligibility) is if they will fit together. On paper, this team has some massive holes in rebounding and defense.
