I was dumb enough to think we had a chance to get him to campus. Jay has made me think that anything is possible with any recruit.

Jordin Griffin had another HR last night, an oppo blast, and had a triple in pull side gap.

having a fantastic start to his junior season. I think he has 4 homeruns so far

Jack Ruckert and William Patrick are scheduled to play for the Healdsburg Prune Packers in the Pacific Empire League this summer.

Having just spent a weekend there in February, it's a really awesome town. And while this probably doesn't enter the equation for a couple of broke college freshmen, there are some incredible wineries all around that town.

Interesting that Ruckert is not headed to the Cape given the chance he may be in the lineup more consistently by the end of the season and likely has first dibs at SS in 2027.

I think Clauss is the SS of the future, but I think Ruckert will continue to get a lot of playing time this year and slot in at 2nd or 3rd next season.

On a different note, here are some JUCO guys we're looking at, one pitcher, one two way guy, and two position players (catcher and likely OF).

Kael Gahan - Chipola - LHP
Brandon Pelechowicz - American River- RHP/OF
Andrew Clapinski - LSUE - C
Ryan Bradford - Johnson County - OF

Wasn't he considered a really good glove with a questionable bat? The bat seems to play at the JUCO level.

I don’t know anything about Clapinski, but hitting is Jay’s specialty, and he has admitted to missing the developmental part of his job. Maybe juco guys with two years plus of eligibility will be more prevalent?

All of the hitters listed in my juco post qualify as that, they're all freshmen. I don't know if Pelechowicz would be a two way, a hitter, or a pitcher at the next level though.

Milam will be an interesting draft case
he needs to get going offensively to drive that stock up
I wouldn't put it past him to come back for his sr year with some NIL to sway him back

Milam's BABIP is insanely low

The guy has struck out just 3 times but has a .250 BA

He's taking walks and putting the ball into play and just getting pretty unlucky.

Defensively its hard to argue anything much short of perfection there.

The only really interesting thing will be to see if pro teams will keep him at shortstop long term or not. He’s got the glove and arm, but you don’t see many 5’6 shortstops

They will keep them there as long as possible. They want guys to play as far up the defensive spectrum as possible as long as possible. For both the potential benefit to big league club, should he make it there, and the trade value, should they need to go that route.

Probably a little early. The only fringe guys would be on the pitching side. Santiago Garcia is a guy that could go either way. Rizy is a DES but I don't think he's a lock to go pro at this point.

On the pro note, I was looking at rosters for the Spring Breakout prospects games that will happen over the next couple days. I was a little surprised to see Javen Coleman on the Blue Jays roster for it. He signed UDFA with them after the 2024. He was actually a non-roster invitee to spring training for them and has thrown well Javen Coleman - spring training game log

I think he's got a chance to be on the fast track to the majors.
