Only 5 HS players drafted in the entire 14th round.

OU has lost a few as well but they were somewhat of an older team

Former tiger Cam Johnson drafted

Cam better take his money because between two natty winning programs, no one has been able to teach him how to throw a strike.

Very low percentage of HS players have been going after the 11th round.

If the White Sox ink him, I will admit that I’m going to kind of miss my regular check ins of the box scores and play by plays of Cam’s appearances

Long way from the projected1st round coming out of HS. Sometimes you bet on yourself and sometimes you lose. If you can’t throw strikes or develop a third pitch, it doesn’t matter how hard you throw, you won’t make it in professional baseball.

Genuinely asking but does it actually matter where guys are picked 11-20? Couldn’t you just pick cheaper guys early to give yourself time to negotiate the rest of your bonus pool for the later rounds?

Vandy just had one of their highly rated signees picked.

Vandy just had another commit (James Tronstein) go in the 15th.
And there goes Kucherak.

In theory, no.
In reality, players picked in top portion of rounds 11-20 indicates confidence by that team that they will ink the player drafted. Kind of also goes without saying, but teams are also competing against other teams to select this talent.

Yes, but only applies in rounds 1-10. See rounds 6-10 where teams are signing a lot of college kids without eligibility left, to sign significantly under slot, and use that money as savings to pool around as they see fit.

I could have been a little more clear.
Let’s assume they save 500k after the first 10 rounds. Do they have to spend that in certain rounds between 11-20? Or could they try to sign guys at or under slot for 11-19 and then spend all of that 500k in round 20? Seems like waiting to spend that much extra money to give yourself time to negotiate would be helpful.
As you mentioned, this would assume other teams weren’t going after those type of guys, which may be unlikely.

Eventually guys are going to start getting taken as flyers if they are seen as too talented just in case teams find extra money to throw at them at the end of the process. So we cannot lose our minds if guys start going in the last 2-3 rounds. Hell Jay may even have to start telling guys we do not have room at this point with only 6 guys off the board.

You will definitely see some of our guys go soon, which is when we can start crunching numbers on what teams may be able to piece together. But, we don't really know what they're asking either.

Someone humor me. If the draft ended right now, what former class would this recruiting class compare to?

They don’t. They can spend it at any point in those rounds or even on UDFAs.
Most often it’s part of a package for someone in the 11th round because that’s after a regroup and it’s the first round with the 150k bumper.
