Ashton will likely be at one of the Kansas schools next year, that’s probably the right move. I don’t really see his path to a ton of PT again.

For the sake of this conversation, I'm assuming that Stanfield is gone. If so, I don't see why Larson couldn't have an everyday starting role in the OF alongside Curiel and Brown. The only freshman that could clearly take a spot out there, if he made it to campus, would be Dean Moss.
Obviously we don't know who is coming in via the portal, but Jay seems to like who we have on the roster now which I assume Larson is one of those he wants to see stick around and start next year.

Project mentioned how we were looking for an outfielder in the portal. This makes more sense if Frey, Stanfield and Larson are gone. It could be a matter of having a backup plan just in case, but I wouldn't bet on that.
I'm also wondering exactly how big our NIL budget is this year. We have already lost out on a few big names in the portal. I know the numbers are tight and we are not going heavy in the portal. As Jay put it, we are going to be selective. I just have to wonder if we are also somewhat restricted by our budget.

Larson is in a similar situation as Kling last year. It's their money year and it would be hard taking the risk of sitting the bench. Kling could have possibly started this year, Larson might next year but if you are then would you take that chance? I think Kling made the correct move for his career and Larson could follow in his footsteps.
I know as fans, we want to keep everyone. The reality is that there are players that are replaceable and ones that aren't. For example, I wouldn't want to lose Casan Evans to the portal. As long we can keep the ones that matter, the others can be replaced. It's not ideal for fans and certainly not for coaches but thank goodness we are not a midlevel team that will probably lose their best player to the portal because of NIL and exposure. We get to keep our core players and cherry pick HS and the portal. We are one of the lucky ones.

Kling was returning to a loaded OF
LSU is losing multiple OF'ers, 1B, and DH, all positions Larson could fit into.

I’ve wondered that as well. We still don’t know how many scholarships we are going to fund next season. I was told months ago that it probably won’t be the full 34.

Oh bummer. Who have we lost out on that we were heavily pursuing thus far ?

If Arizona State is committing to 34 scholarships, we shouldn’t be going lower than that. It’d be a real quick way to piss off a lot of people in the program and fall behind other programs in the SEC.

I'm just telling you what I was told. Things could have changed. It will be interesting to see what schools in the SEC actually do and which ones don't.

Oh I’m not doubting you, or even the person that told you.
Unfortunately I have a feeling you’re right, and that’s the issue.

I have to believe we pursued Valincius, Ace Reese and Osterhouse just off the top of my head.
It's still early but I hope we are not falling behind on the whole NIL budget thing.

This is where I’m at. You can’t call yourself the powerhouse then watch other programs commit more scholarship money.
I’m skeptical of LSU lacking in baseball NIL. Jay told you they were being selective. The first “big” name that entered, who everyone wanted, they locked up immediately.

I’m not saying we’re lacking. But Jay did tell the coaches committee before the season that their dues were going directly to NIL. So he obviously thought we needed to dedicate more resources there.

From what little I actually know about the House settlement that just went into effect a few days ago, I don’t think teams can just drop NIL bags on players anymore. Think fans will be playing catch up on how they actually understand and talk about using NIL to build rosters, which is now immediately different than it has been the last few years.

Rumor is Seth Dardar from Kansas St will be signing with the good guys. Another infielder if true.
