I don’t know enough about Moss to get my hopes up that he makes it to campus. He seems like a high floor low ceiling type of guy but also is rated a little higher than those types of guys so something doesn’t really jive with that. Makes me a little uneasy in the talks of people thinking he gets to campus.

Patrick is one if he can really get into the consistent hitting part of his game the rest of his game is very toolsy. People will not like me saying this but it is kind of similar to Kling to me. Kling was rated higher but the comparison of the tools but needs time to be consistent at the plate is comparable.

Moss just strikes me as a kid that will make it like Curiel. Just doesn’t have the slugging to blow scouts away just yet

People keep comparing Moss to Curiel because he doesn’t have a ton of power, but there’s a pretty drastic difference in how scouts view the two’s power comparison. They are really not similar at all.

One of Moss’ issues with not having power is that he also doesn’t project in centerfield. He needs to either prove he can play CF or hit enough for a corner OF spot.

DVH is the new Mike Martin. He'll never recover from 2018.

Didn’t realize that part. Kind of makes sense he makes it to campus if he doesn’t project as a CF. Hard to be a corner OF with not much power in the MLB.

Right, but he has average power. That’s different than having 40 grade power.

quote:

He’s more hit over power right now, showcasing more bat-to-ball skills than the ability to drive it. There is raw power for him to tap into, especially to the pull side, but he’s still learning to leverage the ball consistently.

Big difference compared to

quote:

Curiel’s bat-to-ball skills are excellent, and he rarely strikes out. But while there is some gap power in there, it’s been softer contact than some hoped to see at this point. He hasn’t gotten much stronger or grown from when he first arrived on the high school scene and he’s yet to show he can add strength to his narrow frame or have impact at the plate.

Joe Doyle compared Moss to Daniel Cabrera. He doesn't have plus speed or power which will limit his ceiling but doesn't really have a weakness which keeps floor high. Fauske also plays OF.

Braun and Ebel remind me of Moss as well in that they have high floors but perhaps limits on their ceiling. Ebel lacks some elite tools and Braun is 6 foot and limited to first base. All three of those guys could be elite college players that we have a chance to get to campus. I have been thinking about Braun lately and he could be a Trey Morgan type player for us, with less speed.

I saw him make that comparison which would make sense in him not projecting as a CF and not having the power yet for a corner OF. Would be nice to land those types of players.

As said before, could be another reason they seem so selective and pitcher heavy in the portal.

I expect these 19 back as of right now...

1. Arrambide
2. Benge
3. J. Brown
4. Cowan
5. Curiel
6. Evans
7. Fontenot
8. Guidry
9. Milam
10. Noot
11. John Pearson
12. Primeaux
13. Reaves
14. Rizy
15. Schmidt
16. Sheerin
17. Ware
18. Williams
19. Yamin

Portal Adds so far…

20. Lachenmayer
21. Garcia
22. Dardar
23. Simpson
24. Smart

Large Incoming HS Class...

25. Quentin Young
26. Dean Moss
27. Brady Ebel
28. Jaden Fauske
29. Miguel Sime Jr.
30. River Hamilton
31. Omar Serna
32. Mason Braun
33. Reagan Ricken
34. Jack Ruckert
35. Marcos Paz
36. Ethan Clauss
37. Landon Hodge
38. Briggs McKenzie
39. William Patrick
40. Zion Theophilus
41. Jonah Aase

Junior College Adds...

42. Daniel Harden
43. Ethan Plog

Even without adding any additional portal guys, LSU will need to shed 9 guys if the 34 cap is in effect. While anything can happen, I expect LSU to lose a minimum of 5 and probably a max of 7 HS kids to the MLB Draft.

A current player or two on my list could decide to make the jump to MLB as well, which would add up to 7-9 players gone. I just don’t see LSU adding more than maybe 1 or 2 more portal guys at this point.

Moss has some thunder, and from what i have read on him registers significant bat speed metrics for his size.

Nice breakdown Solo. Yeah it's already tight. No doubt some portal guys are on hold until after the draft. I wouldn't doubt that we lost some guys that didn't want to wait for a maybe after the draft.

Odd to me that a guy in Benge whose role was so reduced down the stretch would come back. I’m not against it, just weird trajectory.

I’d bet they tagged some guys with the Designated Student athlete tag too, so they can still transfer out.

I love his swing. I've said it before, but it reminds me a ton of a Japanese swing, where it appears they almost pull all all of their weight into the ball/into the swing as they come through through the plate. Kinda like a more aggressive version of Curiel's swing.

Also let's you get out of the box quicker.

You never know why it was reduced. Could have had an injury. Could have just lost trust in him.

Regardless, he throws 97 and has good off speed stuff. If he reigns in control and command (which, with a year of Yeskie, I think he should be able to) then he could factor into the back end of bullpen.
