Excited to have Larson for two more seasons! He should only improve with experience and if he adds power to his game then watch out.

I have plenty of respect for Larson. He reminds me of Raph Rhymes. The problem is that I think Rhymes was overrated too. Mason Katz was way better in 2013. I still want him in the lineup every game. None of my comments have been negative towards Larson. They are more critical of people who can't see past batting average.

Critical is fine when you know what you are talking about. You just don’t.

Larson in SEC games last year vs the median SEC numbers

.337/.424/.542 (Larson)

.268/.365/.465 (median)

But yea, muh batting average

the recency bias with Larson is wild.

He was absolutely legit in SEC play as a true freshmen and it’s completely forgotten because he struggles in the postseason.

Larson & Brown (& Milam for that matter) all have dirtbag qualities that will make it hard to get them out the lineup.

The other guys have to take their jobs

I think Larson and Brown could absolutely be guys in the outfield next year.

But i like that Jay brought in options so we aren’t fricked if they don’t take a step forward.

are we sleeping on Curiel?

They were all somewhat of draft risks, too, so it's not like it was completely surprising that they contributed right away. Brown in the OF, maybe, but Milam and Larson were dudes coming in. People overlooked Milam because he had a tough transition in fall/spring scrimmages...against some of the best pitchers in America, though. People hate on Larson because he's slow and has a noodle arm - the kid can hit, I don't understand being critical of him at the plate, even if he struggled in the postseason.

I don't think so. In a typical Mainieri year when the cupboard was bare he'd be thrust into a role by default. Speed and defense can play now, the power hasn't translated yet but LSU could use one or two more speedsters if he can we hit for average and get on base towards the end of the lineup. At the very least he'll be a platoon bat.

Brown was drafted before Larson. Milam wasn't even drafted.

I'll never understand the drafted argument. Brown was taken in the 16th round on a flier. Milam was still the #1 player from his state and a fringe top 100 overall player. He hit like .627 avg as a Senior.

Brown and Milam were actually ranked within 3 spots overall of each other by Perfect Game.

Means literally nothing.

Thatcher Hurd just got drafted before Griffin Herring.

Who was better last year for us?

Milam pulled out of draft so that took him off most teams boards

I moved him to the 2025 class based on that article. Riley is reporting it via a source, so he at least talked to someone close to the situation about it and is not just speculating.

Interestingly, the article did not mention Lape, Thompson, or Cooley. Could be an oversight by Riley but who knows.

We have kind of hinted at that probably happening with the roster management. Made too much sense for it not to happen. He will gain much more valuable at bats by staying JUCO one more year.

So that puts the roster at 43 going into fall. 23 position players and 20 pitchers.
