Careful I got blasted for saying the exact same thing
Jay is going to put the best roster together that he can but you can see the logjam at multiple positions with the talent coming in, so some very talented players are going to be asked to wait their turn
Just look at outfield, you brought in Stanfield, Curiel and Beck and you bring back Pearson, Larson and Brown - who sits?

can name 5 players I'd rather put at 1B before him and he is even further back on the DH list.
I mean what if he comes in and rakes & forces his way into the lineup?
I don’t know how anyone can call this right now.

Hate to harp on it but a .323 average with a .746 OPS for Larson is a continuation of what we saw during the season. No way .323 should equate to .746. He's got to increase his extra base hits and walks.
I dont think you're entirely wrong here, but if we could maximize him on the bathpaths it wouldnt matter as much. He's hit 5 doubles but no home runs in the cape so far (over 62 AB). Only 3 walks which is keeping his OBP quite a bit lower than you'd expect as well. Larson has things he needs to work on but if Jay ever unleashed guys on the bath paths, guys hitting like Larson would play a little better. He just doesnt really steal with anyone.

I recall Johnson talking about the other three JC transfers in his press conference and making the statement that he couldn't talk about the other (Hardin) because there was still some question about whether he was in or not. Given what has transpired in the portal, I would bet he is now out.

Harden has another year at juco since he was only a fr this past season
He may do something similar to what Reaves did, stay at juco and join next year's class

Of course that can happen. Mic Paul can come in and rake and get an OF spot too but by what we know that is not likely. I'm going off my opinion of looking at stats/video and at the level of play these stats are happening. Also taking into account he redshirted at Arizona. He did rake in JUCO but then this summer has really struggled against better competition.
I believe Jones, Frey, Larson, Hernandez, and Beck are all in a better spot to get the 1B reps before him. I'm not completely sold on Yamin yet but likely he is ahead of him also.
Also, don't you say if you redshirt at LSU when you come in you likely won't be a huge contributor at LSU because other guys will pass you up. I tend to agree with you on that point even though others don't. Does that not apply when someone redshirts at a different school with less talented players?

I know it’s been said many, many times but it’s really mind blowing the difference in quality between the discussions in this thread vs what happens on the rant. Many people in here know infinitely more about lsu baseball/baseball in general than me but even I can very easily tell the difference

That is why this time of year I very sparingly look at the rant. Every now and then I still get suckered into making a comment on some of those threads though knowing the educated responses will be slim.

I have pretty much quit looking at the rant for the most part due to the troll threads. This is the only thread I pay any attention to.
Thanks to all those who make it what it is !

Looking at the rant this time of year is almost as insane as looking at the political board. I was bored this morning and found myself on the political board wondering to myself where I went wrong in life.

I don’t disagree with Bear back but we also have never seen Schmidt take an AB so it’s easy to assume that imo. I more brought it up because he announced he was coming, I suppose that could change but doesn’t seem like the plan is to keep him at juco. I think anyone can pass anyone up outside of a few on this team
But I’m not gonna write Schmidt off in 2026 bc we don’t know much about him. He’s bringing some pop from the LH side and Jay loves that. Hoping he sticks around for 2026.

I took the Poli board off my regular menu. It's been nice.

Larson in SEC games last year vs the median SEC numbers
.337/.424/.542 (Larson)
.268/.365/.465 (median)
Yea, every player needs to keep getting better. But you look ridiculous to keep soiling one of the better freshmen performances in years by an lsu OF’er. The whole energy of the team changed when Larson was inserted.

I think he can possibly be in the mix and would be nice to have 2026. I was just throwing out my opinion of playing time for next season now that Bear is back and we added what we did in the portal. I can be completely wrong and he wins the DH spot, but my opinion right now off the info I have, that just doesn't seem likely.

LSUE Baseball just tweeted out a congratulations to Corey Cousin as an LSUE signee being drafted. I guess if he doesn't sign pro, and doesn't go to Oklahoma, he'll be in Eunice and we'll be evaluating him.

LSU has a whole portal class full of players that were not good enough to be recruited by a school like LSU or Arizona out of high school.
None of this has anything to do with my lsu redshirt theory. Players develop & things change.

people forget everything when you slump.
he hit the freshmen wall towards the end of the year but there is every reason to be high on him.

I don’t get it Sammy
There is some leakage from the rant popping up over here though

Fun fact: Trevor Schmidt's middle name is William.

If you are referring to me as "leakage from the rant" then you are quite mistaken. I just stated what my opinion is on the 1B situation for the 2025 season.
Your point on the redshirt deal is perfectly valid. I do agree players develop and get better and that is why I keep mentioning Schmidt with the potential for 2026 season.
