If Guidry was going to be looked at as a starter than he wouldn’t have been messing around on the infield
He would have seen time on the mound to start preparing for that role in the fall
Trying to ramp him up to become a starter in the spring is not ideal

Jay has said numerous times that Guidry was getting his shot on the infield. He would pitch a little but get a shot at the field.

well guidry has to agree to it. if he insist that he must get shot at infield, kind of hard to make him do something else.

I don't think Guidry is a starter but they've also planned that he wouldn't pitch much this fall, if at all.

Jay Johnson reiterates how important Gavin Guidry is to this pitching staff.
“He’s one of the best relief pitchers in college baseball. We’re not moving off that.”
Sounds like the infield/hitting portion will be attempted this fall but the pitching comes first
quote:
Johnson said that Gavin Guidry will continue to pitch, since he believes he was one of the best in college baseball, but you won’t see him pitching competitively much in the fall. He did not end up playing summer ball, had to recover. Now it will be a collaborative effort to get him to also compete as a position player— refers back to Yeskie’s philosophy on prioritizing the arm first

Jay Johnson says Gavin Guidry is probably not going to pitch a lot this fall.
He’s dealing with a minor foot injury right now but the plan is still to experiment with him in the infield and at the plate.

And “his shot” must be genuine, meaning that once this prolonged experiment is over, Guidry needs to be at peace with his role going forward. No “what-if’s” or lingering feelings of being slighted. It may work out as Guidry envisions it or it may work out as the scouts envision it. He’s at the right place at lsu because for the most part, jay balances team need with doing what’s best for a kid’s MLB stock: winning and high draft picks each have importance

I believe the winter transfer portal window opens tomorrow, but I'm not 100% certain. The semester doesn't end for another week or so and then finals are after that. But I guess decisions could already be made since I would guess evals were given after fall ball ended.

Are graduates the only ones that can play immediately?
Posted on 11/30/23 at 10:05 am to Lester Earl
I believe so. I don't know that we'll see much traffic in this window, on our roster I mean. And any traffic we do see, I'd be shocked if it's anyone that can't go JUCO.
I don't know who we have that may be a graduate either though.

That is correct. A 15 day transfer portal window from Dec 1-15 for spring season athletes.

Not sure who committed, but Brady Ebel visited recently. Luke Billings recently decommitted from Tennessee, but I don't know if I'd call him a commitment candidate.
Charlie Buckles is a recent Tulane decommit that's in play.
There are a couple others, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

Guidry being looked at as a starter is coming from inside the organization, not from me. I didn't see that coming actually. That being said, a decision has not been made yet.

Very highly rated 2025 CA shortstop Brady Ebel committed to LSU.

Ebel has really good size for infielder. Top of the class tools.

gavin 100% has starter stuff. but im not sure he would be ready this year. Next year...yes.
but he has to be willing to put the work in to put on weight and get much stronger. So far he has not shown that and i love the kid, he is an amazing person but he has to be willing to do what it takes.

The roster went from 46 to 45, trying to figure out who dropped off.
ETA: Looks like Kaleb Applebey is not on the roster anymore.
