George pitched this season, averaged almost 2 Ks an inning. I expect him to be a 7th inning guy for us on the weekends.

Cabell not coming to LSU

Sad news but still a stacked 2019 potential roster.

I’m not getting my hopes up but we could have one of the most talented teams in cpm’s tenure if he makes it here

one of the best? shite. I don't see how it wouldn't be more talented than every roster minus 2009

Is there any chance that Cabell got released of his NLOI as a ploy to get him more apt to sign with the Brewers, therefor eating up potential dollars that would have gone to Turang?

Or is that wishful thinking?

Likely very wishful thinking, I think they just know he wasn't coming here regardless if he signs or not and went ahead and gave him the release so if he doesnt sign he can head to a JUCO instead

He doesn’t need a release to go to juco.

ETA: Not that I think the other scenario is plausible, that’s just tin foil hat stuff, but I’m just curious how that all played out.

According to CPM he’s been telling them he will sign pro, then for whatever reason fell really far. I think they used his roster spot

If he signs with another D1 I’m going to melt worse than I did on 11/26/16.

Ha. I guess because I never expected him on campus I'm not that broken up about it.

Remember, he's still got a lot of swing and miss in his game. A lot of power, decent speed, strong arm. He's basically Slaughter as an outfielder (with admittedly louder tools, but the same good and bad). He will strike out a ton wherever he goes his first year, college or pro.

The tools are really exciting, but mlb.com gave him a 40 grade hit tool. Not many people are given that bad of a grade hitting, but it also speaks volumes about how good he is in everything else. If his swing gets better he could be a 20hr guy, which would’ve been nice

No doubt. I was thinking he wouldn’t have to be rushed next year and could just hit his way into the lineup, with the payoff being in 2020 and potentially being a Mahtook type.

And I should say enrolls/plays for another D1. I didn’t really expect him here either, but I sure as hell don’t want him anywhere else. I still like what we have, but the depth took a decent hit yesterday from where it looked like we would be earlier in the week.

If he’s not coming to LSU then he’s not going to a D1 school. It’ll be JUCO or sign, he don’t play no school.

Why is there so much optimism about Brice Turang arriving on campus??

Because he's trying to maximize his leverage in negotiations with the Brewers.

I honestly don't know. I know it was said there was no agreement before he was picked. So that plays into it.

But I don't feel like he's going to pass up 2.5MM+ over a difference of a couple hundred thousand. For all the talk that's going to happen, it's just really unlikely that they don't get a deal done.
