There was a time LSU ALWAYS had a player that would be put in the game and would shut down the opposing teams best player....as a player, Johnny Jones was one of these defensive players....Arkansas comes to mind. Do we have a player on our team today of this skill? Is this now just a thing of the past?

We've got some really really good defensive bigs in KBW and Williams. Reid can be that guy if he wants to as well.
As far as guards/wings who could lock down a 1-3 type of player, honestly not sure we have that kind of player. If there is a guy, it would be Marlon Taylor, but JUCO guys basically dont play defense, so it will be a learning curve there. If Taylor can be that guy though, Wade is definitely starting him because he's got the makeup of a really good player overall - good 3 point shot, great size at 6'6 215ish, great rebounder for his size and hyper athletic.
Also dont count out Ja'Vonte Smart as a potential lock down defender.
Garrett Temple types dont often come through programs though.

The assistant Wake Forest bb coach is in serious trouble. Any of his good players that Wade can get for transfer?

Wake Forest kind of sucks. Even if we had a scholly to give I’m not sure how many of their players would be worth it

An astonishing role reversal lol

LSU has almost always recruited better than wake historically. Getting top players has never been a problem for LSU, consistent winning has.

Dude, we get it. Many of the people on here that know basketball and have followed LSU know that LSU has had great recruiting in the past and that our biggest problem is winning with talent. You don’t have to point it out every single time someone makes even the slightest insinuation that LSU recruiting hasn’t been good.

I think with his athleticism and all the hype coming from Wade and other reports, I think you’ll see him be an above average defender that gets better as the season goes on and his basketball IQ grows.

Wade made comments in his Rothstein interview this last week about how dedicated Smart has been in practice to developing this part of his game. So combine that desire with his size and athleticism, and you will end up with a great defender. May not see it this year completely, but by next season he should be.

I wouldn’t count out Mays in this department. His defensive game started to come on strong towards end of last season, which is likely due to Wade’s development and it just taking time and having to break bad habits with that team. But I think he will realize and accept even more this year that his role on this team will be more on the defensive side of the ball and he will continue to progress as he gains that mentality. Edwards also became a good defender towards end of season and should continue to develop in that role. Wade said numerous times that Edwards was one of the toughest players on the team and brought that mindset every practice and game.
I also wouldn’t discount what Waters does as a defender. He’ll never be lock down as he is limited physically, and his mentality will always lean towards offense. But he is very active and quick with his hands, so what he contributes from a steals standpoint is very valuable.

I do post that a lot, and I apologize, I will try to curtail that. However, we regularly have posters on this board who are amazed at LSU's recruiting success, so obviously not everyone "gets it" like you and I'm sure others do.

The wake assistant is a former VCU assistant under Wade

Listening to Billy Embody on OTB this morning he said he has LSU as the leader for Bishop and has a good chance with CJ Walker. More news should come out soon as official visits are being set by prospects.

This is literally a slide show of pictures with a text to speech reading of one of Billy Embody's articles. Next level lifting.
