Drew was 6'0'' at the combine.
Story of the Hula Bowl is pretty famous. "A story in Sports Illustrated tells about the time Brees attended what the magazine called a “poke and prod” for scouts before the Hula Bowl in 2001. Brees’ height came in at 5’11 7/8” and he refused to leave the stage until they measured him again at 6’ even."

Yeah I mean, I love LSU and all...but if I'm that dude I'm going to Harvard. Not even a question.
If there is even a slight chance of playing football at a professional level, you go to LSU over Harvard. It's not even close. If you're planning on living in Louisiana after graduation, being the backup QB at LSU is probably more valuable than a degree from Harvard.
If the kid doesn't think he has a chance of playing at the professional level or being a BCS level starter and plans on living somewhere in a different state after school, then he should maybe go to Harvard.

Wow, his highlights are very impressive. Seems to be a very accurate QB on all sorts of throws, even off balanced.
GREAT vision when he runs too. Very impressed. Also, the words from his coach and the offer from Harvard make it clear he's a great kid and a hard worker as well. Hope he becomes a Tiger.

So you are saying we sign another QB besides Scott?

Is Brees not a legit 6 ft? Is he really under?
Just curious
From what I've always heard, 6'0" has always been a generous measurement.

Finally, hope it's not too late.
If Herb Tyler can play QB at LSU this guy can too.
If not, then you move him to another position.
The guy throws better short passes and intermediate routes right now better than anything we have on campus.
His yardage total in top class is impressive.

This is fricking retarded.
Holy shite, the things you read on this website

Everybody needs to relax about the height thing. It's not that important if you know how to maneuver in the pocket. Brees demonstrates that every week in the NFL, which is the land of the giants.
I will say this, though. I would rather have an Ivy League smart kid who's 5'10 at QB than a 6'2" QB who isn't, provided they both play similarly.
Extra IQ points > extra inches at QB, considering minimum qualifications for the position.

That's the dumbest thing I've read in a long time.

He's one of those enigmas. He's not big (but not small). He's not super fast (but not slow). He's very quick, though and moves well with the ball in his hands.
With a background at QB, I think he could make a serviceable slot receiver or even nickel back on defense, if a change in position is warranted. His highlights show deep passes with a nice loft and accuracy but, a little too much air under the ball. Not sure if that will translate. However, his intermediate passing looks pretty accurate with a quick release - and he looks comfortable dropping back or out of the shotgun/pistol.
I like him as a project - glad we tried for one of the big boys first. Hope he's happy to stay close to home.

If we sign Scott he will be the only one we sign. If we do not sign Scott we will sign someone else.

Which unfortunately even the most intelligent QB in the SEC can only do so much if you're limited in physical ability. People on this board don't want to hear it but it's the truth. Elite SEC defenses eat guys like this alive. Sure, they have exceptions but they're very rare. Chances are LSU is not going to get much from this guy. I don't care what he did in HS. Sometimes you have to just make a throw that only an elite arm can do and sometimes you just have to make a run that only amazing athleticism/speed can do. Football smarts only get you so far. Otherwise you'd be seeing a lot more "smart" QBs in the NFL.
The real truth is this guy was at the bottom of LSU's board because they missed on all their targets so he's a desperation offer that maybe they can get lucky with in the future. I'll take it since all the other physical specimens we've been recruiting haven't really lived up to the billing. Try something different isn't so bad I guess.
