I do not believe for one second he has altruistic motivations. He is simply being practical and taking advantage of what the system allows and really requires now to be competitive at the top levels. I think his statement from the article backs up that take.

it took me about 3 years of trolling GG on twitter asking him why he has LSU beat for his handle....he finally erased it last year, he pimped out the brand for clicks

We have a plan in place for OL. What matters is the end result. The good ones are not in the portal yet only a few. They have agents talking to schoos for them.

Maybe I should try that. I was obnoxious to him at one point last year just to try to get him to block me as well. Instead, he followed me.
ETA: And I wasn’t following him at the time. I only did since he followed me. Still can’t figure that one out. Maybe he looked at my posts and liked some of what he saw.

I remember his articles going downhill in the Shreveport newspaper after Saban went to Bama. I don't think he was too critical of Miles in 05 with the team after Katrina. In '07, you would have thought LSU was headed to the Indy Bowl if you just read his articles. I'm surprised GG could even write any articles in '08 with how much time he spent on his knees under Saban's desk.
