What does everyone think here? Is this better for us or UGA?

I would think good for us. I just don’t think O will lose smith in the long run. He’s been recruiting him for years

Saying that right after their visit to Red Stick might not be a bad thing.

Well considering that people around here feel pretty good about Maason should be a good sign unless things have drastically changed

I dont think he loses him either its just so unsettling to think its actually pretty close. Also don't mean to hijack the thread but there is some smoke about Jyiare Brown decommitting from the Ohio State side. A few have also said its LSU's doing.

The part about him being an alabama fan growing up and not liking LSU is sort of unsettling. Seems very open to leaving the state

That was a cringey read. Dude was all over the map. His dad is a Florida fan but he was a Bama fan growing up bc he wanted to be different. Hate to break it to you big guy but being a bandwagon Bama fan in Louisiana the last 10 years isn’t being different

Seeing how he made that statement immediately after they both visited LSU makes me think it’s good news for us.

I don’t see anything bad just nothing all that good either ??. He doesn’t seem like the kind of kid who just goes against the grain just to do it. He seems like the kid that wants everyone to know that if or when he commits to LSU, that it was his decision and not some long time dream or influence on him to do so. It was just the best decision for him, his family and it just so happens that his best friend really likes LSU as well. Plus Baton Rouge is a little closer than Athens to Los Angelos.

I think if you read into what he’s saying, like really read into it without any previous thought or bias one way or another, everything he says he wants in a school and for himself and his family fits LSU much more than any other school. Wants a place that will take care of him, could help him after football with a good job in broadcasting. LSU has plenty of ex players working for the networks.

LSU has a reputation for really caring for its players and is now much more family oriented with Orgeron here. Having ex players come by and things like this. Shaq needs to befriend this guy and give him a good talk! He mentions having an elderly grandmother and how he wants them all to be able to come watch him play. Where is this more suitable for him? BR or Athens? He’s saying that he and Foreman are going to play together and Foreman just had a great visit. While other schools may check the boxes, I’m not so sure they check them like LSU does. I think he’s just setting it up so he can say, look I didn’t commit to LSU just because it’s LSU or just because everyone else’s dream is to be here, I committed because it’s the best fit for me!

You would think with all the DE/DL that have left the team, Maason and Korey are looking at starting jobs as soon as they step foot on campus. We are lacking serious depth and you know without a doubt Coach O is selling that playing time.

But for number two growing up I didn’t really like LSU growing up because I always thought it was expected for everybody to like LSU. I always liked Alabama.”

Smith rolled with the Crimson Tide as a youth. “I guess that’s why I have never committed to LSU because like I never really, well you know, because most dudes here the reason why you really don’t hear most dudes leave the state is that usually growing up that’s their dream,” he said. “That’s embedded into their head. You know that ‘I want to go to LSU and play football’ and that was never my dream. Because my Dad is a Florida Gators fan. My mom doesn’t watch college football. She’s a [New Orleans] Saints fan. I guess it was never really put in my face that LSU was my dream school or anything like that.”

The smith situation is not ideal for LSU. He seems to make sure and tell writers he doesn’t have an unshakable connection to LSU. It definitely isn’t the lock that some people think.

He's not a lock at all. I will take him at his word that he and Foreman are a 100% package deal but back of my mind don't believe it. I can't really remember the last time that a package deal of this magnitude ever happened?
