We should have kept Peveto and after the recruiting season was over hired him as a paid consultant. He's a great recruiter

We should have not just fired him but salted his lawn. We couldn't get rid of that guy fast enough.

That BDP firing wasn't strictly a ST performance issue. There was more to the firing than just that. That's why it happened the way it did.

Jimmy, I have a question I'd like to ask you: How much do you think online chatter affects recruits, their perception of the fans, coaches, and the school? .

Over reaction? Let's see, Akers started trending away from LSU, Buggs to Bama, Lowell decommitted and DB's were concerned Raymond wasn't going to be here. That's over reacting?

Yes that is an overreaction considering we got the commitment back and re-signed the coach in question.

Losing out on recruits happens literally all the time. Counting on kids to be in the class that never have committed in the first place, and saying that them going elsewhere is a sign that things are trending downward is an overreaction.

And point to a meaningful time that missing on one recruit actually led to missing on another. It's always talked about but rarely, if ever actually happens.

Jimmy and these 24/7, Scout, ESPN guys are college football's weathermen. They all are right about 30% of the time.

I mean, that's part of their job. It's not a science and most of these kids don't even know where they are going.

Writers take information they receive and make predictions. Of course it's not going to be accurate all the time.

I think some of you misconstrue their 'predictions' as facts. That might be the fault of some writers who claim everything as fact, but a lot of writers disclaim a lot of what they write because things are always fluid with 17-18 year old kids.

It's just like I've said before on this site. People shouldn't just take what one writer says as fact. You read all info/sources, weed out certain information as false, and make a prediction. Anyone who claims they know exactly what a kid is going to do is just wrong most of the time.

I think there is a difference between an educated guess and a monkey throwing darts.

I have read Jimmy's articles. I think he clearly has sources and more access to information than most of us readers. I enjoy having the information and his takes on the information passed along.

Anyone who follows recruiting knows its fluid. It is different from kid to kid. Some kids troll fans and put out false information which recruiters or "sources" believe. Some kids are nice kids who cannot say no and tell all the recruiters what they want to hear. Some kids (they are eighteen after all) say they will go to one school one day and legitimately change their mind the next day.

My take is Jimmy gets information as part of his job, digests it, and gives us his educated guess on who is going where. Anyone in the business of predicting what 18 year olds are going to do is going to have hits and misses. If Coach Orgeron were to post today and tell us who he thought would be coming, he would have hits and misses.

But Orgeron would have a better idea of what might happen than average fans do and I think Jimmy has a better idea than most as well. He does it for a living, I would sure hope he knows more about it than us.

My advice to Jimmy, not that he needs my advice, is to keep doing what you are paid to do, cover recruiting and give people your takes, and don't worry about defending yourself. The majority of posters, including me, enjoy getting the inside information and know how to take such information for what its worth.

Jimmy/InTheDetails/Duckie,

Thanks for your response. The reason I ask is because I honestly can't fathom how Ranters, et al. can actually believe that the narratives they cultivate don't get passed along to recruits directly or indirectly, because of course they do. Rather, it is unbelievable to me that those people can argue with a straight face that nothing they say will reach the recruits nor have any effect on them, whatsoever. It seems wildly delusional and, since you guys actually talk to recruits, I think y'all have some authority to be able to speak on that. Again, thanks for confirming.

Fans and recruiting followers really need to be more cognizant of this. Yes, everyone is allowed to speak their opinion on forums like this, but there is a real cost to spouting off some uninformed vile bullshite. Likewise, the unfettered praise of Saban by LSU fans does have an effect on recruiting, even if it's a very small effect. In Louisiana, Saban has been built up into this mythical god-coach. While he is a good coach, no doubt, I think that the Louisiana narrative that being coached by him is the greatest fate that could ever happen to a football player is a perception that the Moseses, Cam Robinsons, and Chris Allenses grow up hearing from the time they're boys—no wonder they defect and sign with him.
