Jamar Cain....DL coach didn't sign one defensive tackle in this class.....

Very telling. I thought Brian Kelly had made a steal when he kept this guy from following Lincoln Riley to USC.

Really need to look at this hire again. DT was a huge need in this class unless they plan on signing multiple 4 and 5 stars at this position next year.

I’m glad Jeff and Ricky from pearl river think jamar Cain is the wrong guy. I’ll probably stick with Brian Kelly’s decision though

Actually we did have 2 quality guys commit but things just didn’t work out for us this time. They had family issues and wanted to be closer to home.
Remember too that this was his first season at LSU so even the guys he got to commit were guys that he was recruiting at his previous school. I think we’ll see what Cain has this upcoming cycle. If he’s still struggling to land DLman then that a problem.
I also don’t agree with the narrative of we need to have instate talent to have a good class. That’s not going to cut it because we routinely have off years at many positions. Especially OL, DL and QB. We need to have guys who can go get top end talent all over the south and not just here in Louisiana. That’s just not going to get it done. We are recruiting DB’s, LBs, OL, DEs and TEs from all over the country so why can’t we do the same at DL? We’ll be in big trouble if that’s what is needed for LSU to land the top DL in the country.
DL has always been a staple at LSU and we will need some top 10 talent here next year. Im actually hoping we can flip 2 HS prospects and also get 2 more out the portal. We need to load up with numbers if we can’t get the best. We’ll hit on some of those guys and let the others transfer. Fill gaps with the portal and keep doing that until we can get the best to play here.

It’s not the position coach’s job to recruit his position. That is done by the whole staff, and it’s usually assigned by geography, not position. Of course, the position coach is part of the process.

How do you know signing DL out of HS was a priority? It apparently is not as they hit the portal for 3 DL. No need to reach for DL when there were no top level SEC DL talent in LA HS ball this year.
