Quits on his team halfway through the season.

That seems like a pass.

From what I read seems like he is not too happy with the DC and also has been dealing with some injuries that put him down the depth chart. If he can get healthy and wants PT faster I don't see why we would say no. Assuming he doesn't want some crazy nil deal. I trust bo to evaluate him properly and go after him if he seems like a good fit.

I thought he flashed last year but now struggling to make an impact on a DLine that is really not that good this year? Something isn't right

doesn’t really fit what they want on defense right now. I’d take him in a heartbeat, but I bet he reunites with Pete G in Oxford

Talent wise he's probably someone we'd like in the rotation next season.

We'll only be returning Breaux, McKinley, and Shone along with 4 true Freshman. I think we'll need at least one difference making transfer.

The question is, does he have an attitude problem or is he lazy? If so, I'd pass.

Suggs will be returning next year as well. Guillory can also use a medical redshirt and come back, DT should be a position of strength next year

He would be DT 1 the first day! Experience size and skills put him on the team now.

He's also a guy who isn't necessarily scheme- or role-versatile. I haven't watched alabama play beyond (a) UGA, (b) the 4th quarter of the vandy game, and (c) random clips and highlights--and even then i wasn't really watching with much attention to scheme or playcalling--so I won't claim to have a great handle on what bama's current d-coordinator likes to run, but I know kevin steele (their DC last year) likes to be multiple with his looks, which tends to have opportunities for big interior space-eaters with a little bit of traditional-DT ability like Oatis. If Kane Womack is more of a traditional even-front guy then it could easily be the case that Oatis just isn't a great fit for what they're running.

Another thing (and this is utter speculation because obviously i don't know oatis personally): It strikes me that a highly disciplined program like saban's alabama would bring the best out of a guy like Oatis, who has at times struggled with weight and with maintaining focus on football generally - whereas Kalen DeBoer's new-agey, lax, "player-first" mentality might not.

I thought oatis looked awesome at times last year. I'm not sure how this season has been, but in terms of what he could be with a change of scenery, I would be hesitant to count it against him too much if he's been bad this year, given the above. BK runs a serious program so I would GLADLY take him in the portal.
