quote:me too. He's had ample time. LSU has tried to get him back for 2 years now, and we had an entire long arse time for the transfer portal, and he still didn't budge even when all the coaches and players around him were moving along.
So sick of seeing this guys name come up with LSU. If he wanted to be here, he would be here

Ima say probably Texas. They not officially in SEC to July 1st.

Well that would be an interesting loophole since technically he'd be transferring to a Big 12 school.

You cannot transfer in the spring window and play in the fall.
Texas not being in the SEC until July is a technicality that doesn't matter.

Could he walkon and pay his own way with some NIL cash ?
Posted on 2/24/24 at 2:24 pm to bopper50
Sure, but he's not playing in the SEC in 2024.

quote:uhh yeah we probably would? It'd be a pretty simple ruling. File in the middle district of LA, every single Judge in that district has ties to LSU. You'd probably get some sort of ex parte ruling to have him ready in time for spring ball.
Thats an SEC rule. We arent taking the SEC to court over Jacoby fricking Mathews.

Who’s the DB that transferred from bama to UGA when Kirby took over?
That’s how this rule got started
I think his name was Smith

Maurice Smith. And the rule at that point was that you could transfer to another SEC school as a grad transfer but had to sit out a year.
There were also those weird restrictions way back where a school could basically block a kid from transferring to specific schools.

Texas isn't officially in SEC right now. So he can transfer to them in spring and be eligible.
He could fight that for sure and win. SEC can't say July 1st is official date those teams join on paper and deny a player that does transfer to Oklahoma or Texas they will lose easily.

TX is loading up to takeover for bama

Yeap. I mean they got the money and now in SEC. Them not being in SEC is one reason they lost recruits.

Sure, he'll be eligible in the fall if they decide to stay in the Big 12.

Wrong.
"In order to gain immediate eligibility, a student-athlete will need to declare his or her intent to transfer by February 1 for Fall sports, May 1 for Winter sports and July 1 for Spring sports. NCAA rules include similar deadlines except the NCAA deadline for Fall sports is May 1.
"The SEC has established a deadline for declaring an intention to transfer in Fall sports as February 1 in order to create time windows that are more consistent across Fall, Winter and Spring sports," Sankey said."
The fact that Texas is not currently in the SEC doesn't matter.
The ruling is that to be eligible to play a fall SEC sport, you must declare by February 1st.

You do realize, we (being an SEC team) are part of the reason the rule was enacted just 3 years ago? It would be akin to vetoing our own legislation.

Can’t transfer within the conference
Yes he can, he just can't play next season unless he is a grad transfer.

This smells like Ohio State.

Just have Jacoby tell the NCAA that he was threatened by racists so that he doesn’t have to sit a year.
Who knows? It worked for Justin Fields.

Or say he felt really uncomfortable the way the yell leaders always looked at him.
