Giving credit where it's due, O has been very instrumental in building relationships and getting our foot in the door, but it's been the coordinators and head coach that have sealed the deals. If he was a lights out recruiter, we'd probably have Rashawn Gary.

Not only this but it's the quality of the players he goes after, these guys are ballers and will most likely bring our DL right back where it was with Saban maybe even better. I know this another 4 or 5 years with O and Aranda working on this front seven and we will be a freakn force!

He had some big misses as a head coach but he is one of the best there has ever been, no doubt. Wouldn't trust him finding a qb though tbh.

Other coaches can find the quarterbacks.

But Coach O is a tremendous recruiter, as noted above in previous posts.

Why can he not be kept as the recruiting coordinator, or some such title and pay him well for it, if it can't be worked out for him to return to defensive line coach.

Wish Coach O could be like Luke Fickell, who after being interim head coach, remained as an assistant coach at Ohio St.

Coach O smells what the recruits are cooking.

Uh, no.

At Miami, he notably recruited HOFer DT Warren Sapp and DT Cortez Kennedy.

At USC, he recruited NFL players DT Shaun Cody, DT Mike Patterson, Manuel Wright, DT Sedrick Ellis, DE Lawrence Jackson, DE Jeff Schweiger

At Ole Miss, as HC, he closed the deal on DE Greg Hardy, WR Dexter McCluster, OG Rishaw Johnson and 5 star players OG Michael Oherand DT Jerrelle Powe

At Tenn, he helped recruit LB Jerod Askew and DB Janzen Jackson (who said "I love him (CEO).")

At USC, in his second stint, he recruited 5 star recruits DT Kenny Bigelow, and QB Max Browne. He was also the main recruiter for high 4 star recuits DE Greg Towsend Jr, WR Markeith Ambles, and CB Chris Hawkins. He assisted Monte Kiffin bringing in the 2015 #1 overall NFL pick DE Leonard Williams.

At LSU, he was the main recruiter for DE Arden Key, DT Rashard Lawrence, CB Savion Smith, DT Ed Alexander and OG Donavaughn Campbell, just to name a few.

This class, he is the main recruiter for LSU commit DT Tyler Shelvin, the #1 player in La and the nation's #2 overall DT.

Let him go somewhere else again and see how hard he recruits against us. I think O could lock down the state again. Let him go and see what happens.

putting together an entire class vs going and getting DL is different'

When it comes to recruiting defensive linemen, he is definitely one of the best.

See Rashard Lawrence, Arden Key

There is a reason he is one of the most respected recruiters in the game. Short answer is nope he's not.

If I am hiring a guy to recruit and coach the hell out of DL's, Coach O is without a doubt the best out there but I think the whole "O is the best recruiter in the business" may be a bit exaggerated.

According to 247 recruiter rankings since 2008 LSU has had a higher ranked coach on staff every year except 2013, when Coach O finished 5th and Frank Wilson 22nd.

Coach O's highest recent finish- according to 247- (4th in 2011), Frank Wilson finished 2nd.

Not trying to diminish his value, just bring a little perspective and IMO LSU is fortunate to have him on staff and should do whatever they have to to keep him... just not as HC.
