1. you likely only get 2 years of eligibility. so you have to have been developed already.
2. most JUCO players aren't fully SEC ready coming out of the gates even if they are high profile and their "tape looks good".
3. High schoolers can develop into something while JUCOs seem to just be a bust and done.
4. It seems like a canary in the coal mine for some position groups like the O and D line. If O wants to really get physical in the trenches, then we have to start hitting on these high profile high schoolers instead of missing out and filling in with JUCO backups. He was supposed to get all of the top linemen to come here with his great recruiting but I'm not convinced. He missed out on Wilson and a couple other guys, and it's not looking good for this recruiting cycle with most of the DL targets. Plus the top guy for next year already decommitted but there is time with that.

idk...I'm absolutely jumping the gun, assuming the worst and I'm sure I'll be eating the majority of these words one day (probably next week) but I'm not pumped about this Fonua guy. I'd rather not sign anyone and keep an additional scholy for 2020. I love our recruiting class rn outside of this though! Looking forward to signing day! Hope we get some big recruits!

Hopefully Soni is a solid player. Sucks he’s only here for 2 years.

Mullen, while at Mississippi State, had some success in red-shirting JC linemen, getting them to focus on the weight room and agility drills during their redshirt year.

JUCO can be very good, we just had a couple not pan out right away.

It’s a bit of a gamble, but if they dominate the Legot JUCO leagues you can bet they’re gonna be at least ok.

Taore played JUCO ball in NY which isn’t the SEC

Moore is all potential.l, but has never produced.

But Lewis is solid. We needed him this year.
Byrd in the past was a big JUCO pick up

We've had our share of JUCO contributors over the years. Claude Wroten comes to mind.

With an 85 man limit you have to attrit some of each class anyway. 1-2 JUCOs is OK in a class

May be letting your ‘worst case thought process’ get the best of you. I agree with some of your thought, however if I told you we could get a top 150 recruit and he was DE at 6’4”, 255 to 265 would you want to take him.
Keep this in mind as well, currently we don’t know if we are getting any other Dlinemen. Also, in the process you get your 3rd somoan on campus and increase your chances of bringing in other guys for the next couple years.

I’d assume you’d say yes, get him in here and put him to work. Maybe he trims down/stays lean and is a breast off the edge rushing the passer or maybe he adds a few pounds and becomes one of our top 4 D-ends and contributes a good bit.

LSU has had several good Juco players. Demetrius Byrd comes to mind

Cam Newton, Nick Fairley and Reggie Nelson, Jarren Reed, Isaiah Buggs, Keisean Nixon, Jarrett Stidham, Montez Sweat, Jordan Ta’amu, Legarrette Blount, Aaron Rogers, Alvin Kamara, Jason Pierre-Paul, Kyzir White, Garrett Bolles, Dede Westbrook, Rasul Douglas, Justin Evans, Chad Kelley, Tak McKinley, Tyreek Hill, etc all experienced varying levels of success after JUCO. I'm sure if I took a moment to dig then I could produce a more impressive list.

Even if they do not become All-Americans there is value in providing depth in an SEC roster.

Very good call.

We’ve had good JUCOs

Kenneth Hollis was a contributor
Claude Wroten was a beast
Kendrick Adams played well.

And again lewis played well too. He wasn’t the beat but he filled a spot and started every game.

But if you thought Traore was a sure fire OT, you gotta kinda look back and realize that was wishful thinking. He’s from Mass. and Played in a NY JUCO.

That’s not the level of competition that prepares you for the SEC

Some of those are guys who went D1 JUCI D1 to not sit out anyear and open up their transfer options

But again Biggs is another good example.

It is ok to fill a spot or two but don’t want to get the habit of taking very many. I am not a fan of the juco players but when there is a need it is ok just have to be careful and do your homework on the player.
