Shelvin can be an NFL player. Farrell has played really well for us. Thomas has been solid. Fehoko who you ignored has been really good.

Name LSU's starting defensive line if Fehoko and Lawrence declare for the NFL draft.

Yeah, hypothetical.. I know. But there was a real shot at that happening and it crippling LSU's shot at having a great season

I’d say it’s a legit question. Saban has a Defensive Backfield background but he seems to bring in and identify defensive line talent despite his background and regardless of who’s coaching his defensive line. In fact, they just had to hire a new dline coach and they’re still able to recruit all of these top guys.

Why can’t orgeron snag that elite level difference maker? I have no idea. It’s his bread and butter. I just get the feeling other programs are using meatball as a negative recruiting tool and it’s working.

I won’t look into this until after we hear about Ish. . . . If we lose him that’s a very disappointing d-line haul in an extremely good class.

My thoughts as well for the most part. Ish & Ika would be a good class by themselves in a 3-4 scheme.

Concerns
- This staff (O and Meatball) hasn't shown that it can develop DL consistently. Our DL this year was pedestrian.
- There were opportunities with the RS rules and injuries for some of the players on campus to contribute this year. So why didn't they?
- DL is Ed's forte. I would have thought our DL recruiting would be a regular force as well. It hasn't been.

Didn’t the deadline to declare for the draft pass?

Do they all suck or are we just assuming they’re all scrap becuase they didn’t play over experienced upper class men?

We are all left to assume on players abilities until they actually suit up. The problem I have is that he has whiffed on big time prospects. His best job at recruiting on the DL was getting the juniors to return this year. If Fehoko and Lawrence bolt, LSU would be in big trouble for 2019

Are you talking about 2020? It’s way too far off to project that line. There’s still an entire offseason, season, and another offseason (and 2020 recruiting class) to go before we get there.

How about recruiting in general as I thought that is why LSU hired him.

Yeah, but you see, Miles always inflated his classes with a bunch of DBs and no linemen unlike O who has a well balanced class this year...oh wait

Moffit got moved to TE, so there's that. I think Farrell is a major contributor and made some nice strides this Year. Justin Thomas is the question mark right now.

You're missing Fonua in this year's class, since you included Cherry and Moore in last year's class. Scott is now a TE.

The big hope with Ed is that he can keep guys who don't project high in the draft to stay their senior year. He's done that this year, with the exception of Alexander. And hopefully, he can coach kids up to be where we need them to be.

It's his third class, and he's had some bad misses. But, that's due to a bunch of factors including his failure at Ole Miss.

It looks like he's got a bunch of 2020 guys on the hook, so hopefully with another successful year, we can get the gravy train rolling in the trenches again.

2017:

DT Tyler Shelvin - 5 star recruit, battled weight issues but looked great late in season especially bowl game and will most likely start this season.
DT Neil Farrell - Big contributor will be a a key rotation guy next season
DE Justin Thomas- has been about what was realistically expected and he’s steadily earning more PT
DE Aaron Moffitt - redshirt. Could be in rotation next year

2018:

DE Jarrell Cherry- top 12 DE in country, redshirted
DT Chasen Hines—beast. perhaps not for defense but good thing we have him for O-line
DE Travez Moore—redshirt
DT Davin Cotton—highly ranked could be a force
DT Dare Rosenthal—highly ranked could be elite OT
DT Nelson Jenkins—highly ranked, redshirt
DT Dominic Livingston—another highly regarded recruit that took a redshirt; has been mentioned as favorite to spell Shelvin

2019:

DT Siaki Ika - Probably the best defensive linemen he's DT signed since being a HC
Joseph Evans - Shea Dixon and Jimmy have repeatedly mentioned how underrated he is

of the 7 signed, 2 have moved to OL, and 2 (Moore and Cherry) are more edge rushers/ OLBs. so we could probably use another big ugly, preferably one of the potential star variety (what up Ish)

that said, we haven't really seen the '18 kids yet, so I don't think the sky is falling. does feel a little underwhelming at the moment though.

It's no different than saying you need a solid back-up QB if the starter gets hurt. You have to have contingency plans in place and that doesn't seem to be the case.

I think there is cause for concern but overall the jury is still out.

You said no comment on Shelvin, but he could be a player yet. He did come on at the end of the season.

You left out Fehoko.

And I think the jury is out on 2018. Most all of the players listed were highly recruited. Cherry, Cotton, Jenkins and Livingston all have potential. LSU has a lot of defensive linemen in the pros that were not all that special as freshmen, Brockers and Hunter come to mind.

Its really early to write off the 2018 class. Its early to write off Shelvin, but he has been a disappointment thus far, no doubt.

And LSU already has two big tackles committed for next year.

I am no big Orgeron supporter, but I still think the jury is out on a lot of these players.
