How soon is too soon to be concerned with DL recruiting under Orgeron? It's his 3rd class
Posted by VermilionTiger on 2/6/19 at 10:49 am4541
Regardless of who Ish chooses today, I think after 3 years of recruiting, we have a problem in the trenches. Recruiting DL and coaching DL are what he's known for, and that' the biggest question mark on the team. Somehow we've gone to a team that doesn't even worry about the LB position anymore (which kicks arse), to wondering what the hell we are going to do with our defensive line if a few of the guys leave early.
What's the problem, here? Brick Haley wasn't even this bad.
2017:
DT Tyler Shelvin - No comment needed
DT Neil Farrell - Solid depth guy and contributor, but not a game changer
DE Justin Thomas
DE Aaron Moffitt - lol
2018:
DE Jarrell Cherry
DT Chasen Hines
DE Travez Moore
DT Davin Cotton
DT Dare Rosenthal
DT Nelson Jenkins
DT Dominic Livingston
2019:
DT Siaki Ika - Probably the best defensive linemen he's DT signed since being a HC
Joseph Evans - Could turn out to be a good player, but doesn't scream "game changer"

Next year's recruiting class is stacked at the position and we'll have an attractive depth chart.
If he whiffs on a bunch in that class, it is a realllllllly bad sign.
I think he needs to replace Meatball if we miss on Ish and hire a dynamic recruiter there, which Meatball clearly isn't.

Not sure what you mean by Shelvin, but he looked great in the bowl game and is slated to be our starting NT next year.
Guy was a big time recruit too.

So LSU has become "next year U" in regards to recruiting d-line talent as well?

Can we just just develop the ones we have?
That is concerning.......

You forget one of the best players from the 2017 class in Logan? Shelvin will be much better than you think!

I won’t look into this until after we hear about Ish. Honestly who the frick knows with him it’s been so back and forth. If we lose him that’s a very disappointing d-line haul in an extremely good class.

Are you seriously complaining? We loaded up last class and are set to load up again next year.
Calling Farrell not a contributor is laughable as well.

Seeing as how he was brought in with the singular purpose of fixing the DL play and recruiting way back in 2015, it’s actually his fifth

I'm honestly tired of the "next year" stuff. Someone needs to be held accountable at some point for the lack of talent at the position that wins SEC games
Don't get me started with the ridiculous recruiting job they did at RB and CB last cycle

Does that help in the 2019 season?
