How much has the money game changed?

Obviously we’re in a new era, and some of the cleaner wealthier programs feel more empowered to spend money.
But people talk as if pay to play is new which we all know it’s not.
So my question is how different is the overall money involved?
If a championship roster is $15 million in 2025 what was it in 2015 or 2005?

There is no way anybody on here can answer this question

The old pay-to-play was a car, a no-show job in the summer and some $1,000 handshakes.
The idea that people were giving out $100k plus in cash on the reg is silly.
Plenty of rich alums would not cross that line, but will now because it’s legal.
No comparison to the “old days”

This is pretty much the answer. Big money was occasionally dished out in the past, but the number of boosters willing to cross the line was smaller and same can be said for the recruits that were viewed as “worth the risk”. But it wasn’t millions. Now that it’s wide open, every fan with deep pockets is slinging dough and every mega rich booster has joined the game which is driving the price way up year to year, it seems.

A certain. Bball player with a strong offer was $40,000 and and other items that weren't as significant as the 40K
Now that same player is going to cost you about $750,000

I can tell you with 100% certainty that in the Arnsparger and Archer days of the 1980's I met all the top players on the team every Friday at my grandfathers business, and the cost was the no show payroll job they had. This is before they weren't allowed to work, that seemed to all go away in the late 80's.
$400 per week pre tax, they were taking home a little above $300. I remember seeing the checks.

Now it’s just public.
That’s not true. High schoolers weren’t getting millions under the table ten years ago.

Cam Newton’s going rate in 2009 as a known JUCO superstar was $120k to $180k for one year. Let’s call it $150k. In 2024 that would be about $220k.
Bryce Underwood is getting $3M as a highly touted high schooler with zero collegiate snaps.

They may have been getting $50,000 - $100,000 in cold hard cash in $100 bills bundled into Sonic bags along with the keys to a Dodge Charger, but not millions.

Fournette was north of 500K and his dad got a yellow corvette prior to the commitment. That’s when I found out where he was going.

There are exceptions. Cam Newton supposedly got $200k.
But even those are small potatoes compared to today.

Need to do nfl draft /auction. Top 300 players. Go through each one and have bidding war in the open. Highest bidder buys them. That way it's all transparent
