Ummmmmmmmm... If not for Miles, these guys whouldn't have been working for Les Miles. They are great recruiters, but you don't think Miles helps seal the deal on these guys?

Every program has coaches who specialize in recruiting. The fact that Miles has good ones reflects well on him, not poorly.

So let me get this right:
LSU does something bad: Miles' fault
Asst. Coach messes up: Miles' fault for hiring them
LSU does something good: In spite of Miles
Asst. Coach does something good: Miles gets no credit
And I guess Saban never has let an assistant coach recruit for him?

Yes, let's downgrade how he was able to hire competent recruiters that have helped us. Because nobody else has that happen. You know, this is a perfect example of the absolute stupidity of our fanbase. Every other coach that recruits well is given full credit. Miles, however, well we should just diminish his success in any way possible, no matter how irrational the argument.

just like I said two pages back:
quote:
The all-out Miles haters are the same people who always say, "Anyone could recruit Louisiana".
These jackasses think they could coach and recruit just as well as Miles, Saban, Cholly Mac or Dietzel.
now we know the same guys will say its the assistant coaches doing a good job not him.
Why would any sane coach or for that matter any sane recruit come here knowing what pricks LSU fans can be?

I disagree with the most part. Most don't post on message boards or participate in call in shows. I would like to see a poll done to prove your assertion.

9.5
he'd nearly be perfect if it weren't for the QBs.

As much as I hate to say it, it was Saban that started LSU on a recruiting roll. He went in there and updated the facilities because he knew that that would help bring in the talent. Miles has recruited well dont get me wrong, but he was set up to succeed in that category when he took the job. I just wish he could recruit a QB that would work in this so called offense they are running.
I don't believe that this is a suitable answer for the question that was asked.

Do you see that this is not equal to being a good recruiter?
LSU (tradition, facilities, rich recruiting location) and the Larry Porters and Frank Wilsons are the MAIN reasons for our stellar recruiting classes.
To try to separate out Miles as a recruiting guru is silly.

Looking at Saban's classes at Bama from 2007-10 the same way, Rivals - 4.2 (10,1,1,5) Scout - 7.2 (22, 1,2,4) ESPN - 6.2 (17,3,3,3) Average of 5.8, and he has Auburn to compete with in state. And Alabama and Louisiana are pretty even on prospects coming out of the state year in and year out.
Im not disagreeing that saban is a good recruiter, i think people on here honestly believe that the only reason kids come to LSU is for the name and cus of Nick saban. not because of any of our previous coaches or because of our current coach. To some people LSU football started with Nick and ended with Nick.

So miles gets credit for everything, but a national championship and recruiting? People's hate for this guy is sickening. He hired every single one of those guys. And im sorry it is not easier to recruit these days then in the past. There is so much more resources available to the kids that they really have opened up their choices and the schools to recruit them. That means more schools are fighting for the same recruits, making it harder to recruit.
I know some kids out there would take an lsu offer without ever visiting campus or talking to the head coach. These are not the elite highschool players. A five star athlete is going to weigh his options and speak to to the head coaches before he makes a decision.
So again explain to me why 50.38% of our players come from out of state? You act like LSU has the best of the best of everything and they dont. A lot of programs are on equal playing field. Especially since the bcs era started.

All I see is a completely irrational argument on your part. Based on this thread, there is literally no way that he can be successful in any facet that doesn't involve someone like yourself finding nothing but negatives in anything that he is successful at.

I realize that you have special needs in comprehension. This is not about finding anything negative to say about Miles. Quite the contrary, it is a thread to blow smoke up everyone's asses that Miles is a master recruiter.
The jury is still out, but a large part of our success has been LSU itself, key assistant coaches, and its close proximity to rich recruiting area. Miles did not create this except: one, don't frick it up, and two, hire recruiters that can get talented hs kids to LSU.
Believe me. I hope I am wrong and am being fooled like everyone else that Miles is a freaking genius that just masquerades as a confused fool in his public appearances.

8-9 range. He can bring in talent, but it isn't evenly spread out across position groups.
Ironically, if Miles the former Offensive Guard, could haul elite OL talent as well as say Saban does elite DBs..he would've never felt the hotseat.
Thank God, La's current bumper crop has some elite OL talent.

IMO-----we are confusing miles recruiting success with LSUs ability to attract elite players-----only a few schools can recruit successfully each year because of HS talent in their respective states and the national attention they receive------these schools: 1. texas 2. ohio state 3. alabama 4. usc 5.lsu ----so, there is never an excuse for LSU to finish outside the top 10 in recruiting----we have so many football resources (talent, facilities, tradition, etc) here in LA and at LSU that it would take a miracle to finish outside the top ten-----
Those are the top 5 schools? Hmmm...off the top of my head, I think of these traditional powers that have everything that LSU can offer: Florida, FSU, Miami, Georgia, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, Bama, USC, Ohio State, Nebraska, etc.

Really?!?!? The guys recruiting classes have been great except for the big time QBs. (Although he did sign 5* RP, RS and 4* JL, JJ and ZL.)

Even if you want to take all the credit away from him, under your criteria, he's a good recruiter because (in spite of himself

I give Miles a 10 in all positions except QB 1-2 and OLINE 3-4( although I think Frank Wilson has improved the OLINE recruiting this year ).

um, lol. if you actually think indiana, michigan, oregon, and nebraska have the same HS talent as lousiana, that is your problem, not mine----

Ive been thinking about this a lot and i give miles a 9.2. His biggest mistake in recruiting was not getting another qb last year.
The oline really wasnt as big as people think. We have recruited the shite out of people to play the oline. Yes attrition hurt our depth. Regardless of that, we still would have had first year starters on the line last year and this year. There is no escaping that when you have had 2 left tackles in an 8 year span. Not every kid wants to be a ryan miller wait their turn to only be a career back up. And he was very valuable to our team.
Now to the qb situation...Everyone nutted their pants for rp. I mean people wanted him to start over jr and flynn...yes they did. He has two years left and gets booted for the rt reasons. So regardless of who we recruited before and after lee and jefferson, we still would have had a true frosh or rs frosh playing qb. Even if Z Lee stayed and started he would be a true freshman starting. Losing one of the best if not the best louisiana highschool qb ever was a big deal. JL and Jefferson had offers from other d1 programs. Its not like miles just flat at didnt recruit that position. Now he def should have had a back up plan for ZL. That has been his biggest mistake in recruiting. But with a transfre or a juco that could all be erased. Either way JJ or JL would have been the starter this year. If rp didnt leave JJ would have been redshirted so we would have a rs jr a rs sophomore and we could have had a true frosh if miles had a back up to Z lee.
I know miles isnt the best coach, but to say he is anything but a great recruiter is just plain ridiculous.

that's not what he said. They have the same to offer as LSU does. Except for one thing...they all have a better head coach, says the rant.
So again why is more than half our team from oos? Cus our head coach can recruit. And he if he cant, well then he hired the guys that can and deserves all the credit.
This is not ncaa 11. This is real life where a lot of programs have just as much if not more to offer than LSU. Yes louisiana as the most talent per capita. Everyone knows that. Not only do you have to worry about getting guys from out of state, you have to worry about the best of the best trying to come in and pick off our stud athletes. Which used to be easy to do. But guys like Dinardo, saban, and yes Les Miles has made it much harder.
LSU does recruit for itself, but not like OSU, not like the U, not like UF, not like USC, not like ND, not like Texas and def not like Bama. Again louisiana is still seen as a poor arse state and the armpit of the country. The weather sucks here. And baton rouge isnt that nice.
