How good of a recruiter is Miles (1-10) ?

I saw a post on here the other day that said Miles wasn't a good recruiter. I really don't know how one would come to that conclusion. I am not Miles' biggest fan, but he has recruited well at LSU. But, I also think it is fairly easy to recruit well at LSU considering how many prospects come out of Louisiana every year, so I took a little deeper look at it,
According to Rivals, Scout, & ESPN we have averaged about the #8 recruiting class with Miles from 2005-10.
Rivals avg. - 8.6 (rankings from 2005-10: 22,7,4,11,2,6)
Scout - 8 (19,7,5,7,3,7)
ESPN - 6.8 (-,8,6,11,1,8 The ESPN average ranking is better because ESPN doesn't have class rankings for the 2005 class. I guess they started doing recruiting in 2006. But, in 2005 we only signed 13 players, so we were ranked much lower by Rivals and Scout)
For the current 2011 class, we are ranked 3, 8, & 5 by Rivals, Scout, & ESPN respectively.

Luther Davis
Darrington Sentimore
Frank Alexander

But to me, Miles has more than made up for any prospects that have left the state over the years with OOS prospects.

Overall, I would give Miles an 7.9. I would say 8.5 or 9, but there are a few things that bring the score down for me: QB & OL recruiting, the Elliot Porter situation (and its not the issue of offering the grayshirt, I just thought Porter should have been talked to about the scenario much sooner), confusion over committable offers (i.e. Storm Johnson), and the self reported recruiting violations, although minor.
ETA, just for comparison:
Looking at Saban's classes at Bama from 2007-10 the same way,
Rivals - 4.2 (10,1,1,5)
Scout - 7.2 (22, 1,2,4)

I give him a 9. I think he's one of the top 5 recruiters in the nation personally.
Families LOVE him and he is really good at building strong relationships.
Of the guys that have left the state, I don't think I truly can say that we really missed out.

As far as recruiting raw talent - 9 of 10 and very highly ranked nationally
As far as managing our roster so that we always have a full cupboard at each position - 6 of 10 and average at best ranked nationally

He's phenomenal at bringing the guys in. We've had concerning amounts of attrition on the OL and at QB though.

Well, I don't see how he could be anything but 9 or better. He is pulling in classes with an average rank of 8, which means he is consistently out-recruiting 112 other Division 1A coaches and only 7 beat him. Those numbers alone put him well above 9.
I guess you could ding him on attrition, depth at a few spots and slow-playing a few guys (like Sentimore) but I still say he's a solid 9.

That OOS list is impressive. Thats recruiting! I do agree with O-line being weak, and QB being the worst position(which should be the priority in any program). He gets an 8 on my list, just misses too much at QB for higher grade.

Get the frick brah. I dont doubt most these kids would come to LSU but have you seen the talent from OOS. Miles is easily top 5 imo.

Definitely top 10-12 in the nation. Solid recruiting rankings, would be higher IMO if the "need" were addressed. O line in particular.

I dont think it is as easy as you think. In this day universities are on a much more even playing scale. And it really isnt the In state talent that makes him a great recruiter, it's the oos guys he reels in from places weve never recruited.

Which makes it even more astounding that this coach who can't develop players and can't coach the game properly can still be a good recruiter. Most LSU "supporters" have seen 5+ years of Miles and think he should be fired. Why don't the future players think this?

at lsu? lsu is easily one of the top 5 easiest places to recruit. 1. resources 2. facilities 3. in-state talent 4. most elite conference----

our next coach will be able to recruit here just as well as miles--- and i firmly believe that.

8-9 range. He can bring in talent, but it isn't evenly spread out across position groups.
