doesn't mean its that easy to improve upon the foundation that was laid before him. someone still has to be great at selling the school

LM has proven to be a very successful recruiter, both in-state & out of state. I just hope he relieves our worries of him being a subpar coach.

Miles is excellent in recruiting except for 2 positions: QB and OL (OL recruiting for next year looks good, first good year in six.)

I just dont see where he has improved on the foundation. Kept it going yes, but improved it no.

As much as I hate to say it, it was Saban that started LSU on a recruiting roll.

Wrong. It was DeNardo recruiting Kevin Faulk which started it off. That lead to guys like Booty (Big Recruit anyway), Brady James, Andrew Whitworth, Trev Faulk, etc.

quote:

He went in there and updated the facilities because he knew that that would help bring in the talent.

That was more Mark Emmert. Not taking away from Saban, you can't give him all the credit.

IMO-----we are confusing miles recruiting success with LSUs ability to attract elite players-----only a few schools can recruit successfully each year because of HS talent in their respective states and the national attention they receive------these schools: 1. texas 2. ohio state 3. alabama 4. usc 5.lsu ----so, there is never an excuse for LSU to finish outside the top 10 in recruiting----we have so many football resources (talent, facilities, tradition, etc) here in LA and at LSU that it would take a miracle to finish outside the top ten-----

The facilities werent really saban, the wins, TAF, emmeret that all helped. Saban was big on getting the academic center. But it's not like he built it.

dinardo was a good recruiter...he had nfl talent all over the field, he just couldnt win. He started building the wall around Louisiana. Saban brought the wins the sec championship and BCS crown. Someone had to keep it going. Like i said not just anybody could come in here and sell the program to not only instate kids but all over the country.

we had one season of shitty defense, one of shitty offense, 2 ocs, 3 dcs, and various assistant changes and yet we are still bringing in the talent. And pulling guys from elite programs and elite coaches. That is not a fluke.

Look at my post above... 50.38% of our players came from out of state from 06-10. If we only recruited LA none of our classes would be top 10 except for 2011 class. While at those other schools they can just recruit their respected states and be in the top 10.

Nic Harris shouldn't be listed.

Nic Harris career stats at OU - 233 tackles, 20.5 tfl, 7 sacks, 7 ints, 6 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery

First Team All Big 12 selection 2007 & 2008

2009 5th round pick by the Buffalo Bills. 30 tackles & 3 tfl in his rookie year. Currently a backup linebacker for the Carolina Panthers.

You don't think he could have contributed to the LSU football program? Don't get me wrong, I don't think he was a big loss, but he could have helped the defense.

Sabn checked out less than a year removed from a national title. Before and after that people still considered louisina the armpit of the country. I go all over telling people i live and baton rouge, and they dont even know its the capitol.

So we hire Les Miles. no ones likes him, people havent heard of him, a very shitty coach. yet year after year we hall in talent. Saban is gone and has been gone. If he such a bad arse coach then why are we still beating bama out for recruits?

Because les miles is a great recruiter.

I give him a solid 9. His strong recruiting (plus a national championship) are the reasons I am somewhat tolerant of Miles, knowing that if/when he leaves the stable of talent will be there waiting. If we were not consistently in the recruiting top 10, I would be much more concerned right now.

Whoever said that it is easy for LSU to recruit Louisiana talent must not remember Archer and Hallman --> UF, Fla St, Miami, Nebraska, etc were consistently grabbing top La. talent in the 90s.

Also, the OP's list of out of state prospects signed is considerable, do not underestimate their impact on this program and disregard the non-La. players.

He is a good man and we will soon seen see if he is a good enough coach to be HC at LSU going forward.

Looking at Saban's classes at Bama from 2007-10 the same way,

Rivals - 4.2 (10,1,1,5)
Scout - 7.2 (22, 1,2,4)
ESPN - 6.2 (17,3,3,3)

Average of 5.8, and he has Auburn to compete with in state. And Alabama and Louisiana are pretty even on prospects coming out of the state year in and year out.

That has nothing to do with why I said he shouldn't be listed.

And this is a question of recruiting success, which Miles has had. you may not like the guy as a coach, but people are really showing their true colors in this thread.

What? I started the thread. I don't think I'm showing any colors. I'm showing facts. I actually started the thread because I saw where SlowFlowPro posted the other day that Miles wasn't a good recruiter, and I wanted to hear his reasoning for saying so. Not trying to call him out or nuthin, it just got me thinking.

Like I said, I don't think Harris was a major loss for LSU, but I think he turned into a damn good player. Why don't you think he should be listed? I'll edit and take him off if you give me a good reason.

when over half our recruits grow up every year wanting to play for the LSU tigers, that gives you a large advantage ---especially when the talent in LA is very, very capable.

------things have changed since the 90s fellas----- it is much easier to recruit at LSU then ever before----and that has more to do with LSU itself, then it does with les miles.

My second statement wasn't directed at you. As for Nic Harris, I'm simply saying that was on Saban, not Miles.

I would have loved to had Nic Harris, but that was Saban's fault for letting him leave, not Miles'.
Saban didn't recruit Nic Harris or Chris Brown out of ASH and when Saban left for Miami, Miles had a month and a half to secure the recruits we had committed (some of which left) and try to get RP to change his committment.

I think you have severely discounted the impacts that Larry Porter and Frank Wilson have had in these classes.

If Miles does not have LSU and guys like this behind him, Miles would not have gotten them.
