Is this the kid that a ton of people thought we were getting in lieu of Arch? Everytime someone said "Arch isn't coming here" the replies would say "Don't care, getting Holstein."

the people who didnt know of the situation between him and Howard, maybe, but it certainly wasnt widespread. Coaches have known for a while Eli wasnt coming here. He hasnt even been by the school in over a year. Fact is he was never coming here with Howard coming here and has been looking out of state ever since Howard committed.

hard to fault a qb for picking Jimbo. He may not be the best, but he's good.

This is correct. The staff maintained a good relationship with Eli, but knew he was not keen on sitting behind Howard again. Walker is a stud so I don’t blame him at all. I wonder if Holstein knows the job won’t be handed to him there either. There’s a 5 star committed to them in the same class as Howard.

Barring a bad injury we’re set up very nicely for the next few years

In theory, yes

I really think Brennan starts and stays the starter. And I think Max will get a ton of playing time and both will be fine. Max will then start in ‘22 and Nuss will be a sophomore and a hell of a backup and Walker a freshman.

The real question will be if Max is good enough to get drafted after his 3rd year. If he is, all is still well with Nuss becoming the starter as a Junior with a hell of a backup in Walker as a sophomore. And then we play the same song again if Nuss is ready to get drafted and have Walker take the reigns as a Junior.

I get why many think they won’t stay for two years just to play one. But if the coaches are earning their money, that’s exactly how it’ll work out.

For instance, the spring game showed that Nuss has a lot to learn before becoming a starter. Keeping in mind that all of them will get playing time as sophomores in prep to start as Juniors, it can work out.

If any stay for a 4th year, things will definitely get shaken up.

In the end, you play the best guy and if that means a sophomore Walker jumps a Junior Nuss, then that’s fine.

I don’t think we’re in as concerning of a transfer position as many seem to think. But we’ll have to reassess in two years if Max decides to stay as a 4th year.

Unfortunately it looks like we aren’t getting any of the top LA QBs for ‘23 class because of Walker which is a great problem to have. It makes whoever we recruit in ‘24 the key to keeping the roll going that we’re about to start.

Not really surprised. Kid transferred because he didn’t want to sit behind Walker Howard. No way he was going to go to college to sit behind him again.

He ran away from Walker at STM because of the competition and is doing the same by not going to LSU

Collins would be a nice consolation prize at QB in '23. He is improving every day at every camp he attends.

If you're trying to get college scholarships it's probably better to transfer somewhere and start 3 years instead of sitting behind another kid until your senior year.

We had recruits last year show up, coaches just coudlnt interact with them with it being dead period. Remember when Nussmeier helped host a ton of kids last year in like September?

Point is he wasn't interested in coming here the moment Walker committed last year because that was the situation he got away from to begin his high school career.

Holstein's let coaching staff know that not long after Walker was committed here.

If a player develops by the coaching and has one year as a starter where they put in terrific numbers and show no downsides [being prone to injury or have attitude / character issues], there seems to be a decent track record of pro-teams showing an interest where all four of these guys can put in their time, avoid significant abuse on their bodies and be NFL capable.

Seems like all he does is repeat the company line.

He didn’t “run away” from Howard. He realized he would only play 1 year as a starter and decided he wanted reps. Knowing he may not beat out the top QB in the country, he made a business decision.

He didn’t even have a committable offer from LSU, nothing to see here

So am I alone in thinking the last thing we wanna do is give this kid a reason to get fired up against LSU? Enough with the mentions of the backstory. Eli has real talent. The best thing we can do is simply wish him well

Max still has 5 years to play four. If anything Brennan will win the job, put up monster numbers, then enter the draft. At that point it's a 3 way battle. Now If he loses the 3 way battle in 2022 I could see him leave, but not this year.
