That was the conventional thought before the Portal Era but now I'm not sure there is a MUST have player or position in any recruiting class that’s an absolute must have. Not only can you get any position from the portal but the majority of the portal players have actually accomplished something in CFB.

He is the #1 recruiter. It’s not theoretical, it’s based on actual production by an independent site. Direct your questions to them if you are having trouble understanding.

It’s idiotic to criticize him at this moment, for all of the reasons I already mentioned. We have room to get a RB in the portal. You are saying you think we should have one of those spots filled right now, because of depth concerns for next year?

Why? With our current backs, a freshman RB is unlikely to play and very likely to want to be paid to come here, and will just as likely transfer if they don’t play. I don’t see the point in wasting money on a unproven hypothetical individual strictly for depth.

Just posted this in another thread. There is talk that Mike Johnston, starting RB for Arkansas, is transferring to us. He is pretty good.

We will be just fine. The RBs need a revamp. If he goes I think Berry puts on the lbs and becomes a bruiser next year with a new coach. Will be plenty RBs in portal to nab!

Moron, most portal guys are one year rentals. Yes we should’ve gotten one committed already.

Berry and Duncan are both sec starter level backs. Need some depth in case of injury. Johnson is depth. Have no idea if KalebJackson will stick it out; and could decide to transfer.

Calling me a moron and idiotic doesn’t actually strengthen your point.
Most portal players are looking for playing time, better competition and/or more money. If you were to actually look at portal transfers, you would see there are plenty of freshman, which should tip you off that it cuts both ways, and signing a player strictly for depth may put you in the exact same position next year. The majority have multiple years of eligibility.
There is plenty of time and moving parts right now.
Calling this a failure is extremely premature and doubtful to ever be warranted. Especially given the fact that, again, frank wilson is the #1 ranked recruiter this year, and has signed a top 10 RB out of LA in the 3 preceding years - including the #1 RB last year.
You just don’t have a very good point.
