That isn’t including the HS seniors who didn’t graduate early (assuming that’s 5-7 players. We keep getting transfer portal players…how on earth are we going to get down to 105? Are we just counting on the profit sharing thing to collapse and the number stay at 120 for next year?

they can pare down the walk ons and make it easy
most are only on scout team anyway

the days of a Josh Williams contributing are over as they won't have room on the roster to carry walk ons

There are over 20 walkons in that group. Not all walkons will be brought back on the roster.

What a mind-frick. I’d rather tell a walk on who has been here a while that we haven’t seen enough improvement…over someone who is graduating this month and expecting to go to LSU.

There are walkons who were not on the roster last fall. Are we supposed to keep a walkon who is not going to play instead of adding players who will help. Confused by your post.

That’s legal? They can work out with the team and not be considered on the roster?

The walkons offered this cycle are obviously not as valuable as transfers…maybe we offered them with an asterisk…you MAY be a walkon.

No there are walkons who joined for the spring.

Not sure your point, we know you know how this all words due to your son.

I'm sure you have some point you are trying to make.

I know LSU offered a walk on kicker…and we have Aiden Corbello as a walk on. I just don’t know how you pull the offer to the incoming freshman at this point.

Kicker is a pretty easy position to tell people to kick rocks…but at every other position those kids could be playing somewhere else (I doubt our walk on kicker could have)…they go through the spring and have their spot…only for us to keep portal searching and they could end up on the outside, with very little time to find another place.

I get it…some kids get processed out…that slow trickle of new player additions would drive me crazy if I had done everything asked of me through the spring, only LSU gets greedy for another safety and now I’m watching football in the fall.

that is understandable, but ultimately walkons are not guaranteed, unless they are preferred as that has more sway.

After spring ball, a few of the walkons will end up quiting, b/c they realize they don't want to be a blocking dummy or the life isn't what they thought. I had 2 friends who were walkons at LSU years ago and both quit after 1 spring in different years.
While it sucks for a walkon to get replaced by a transfer, it is sort of the life of a walkon. If they wanted a guarantee, go somewhere smaller.

Some walkons have more guarantees then others. The 2 walkons I spoke of, both have gone on to be succesful football coaches. The brief stint, probably helped both.

I would have more of an issue of guys on scholarship who get run off, as opposed to walkons who aren't preferred

Yeah sure, let’s not take the difference maker at safety and instead focus on making sure our tackling dummy is happy.
Grow up, you have a son who’s playing in the SEC in the NIL era, results matter, nothing else does.

If your son doesn’t make the majority of his kicks he’ll go down the same path, it’s a business

I want LSU to be greedy and stack our damn team…

My son is getting nothing from NIL.

You’re missing the point. Walkons don’t perform and we need room, they’re the first ones getting the Ax

I have understand, be cool if they instated a ‘practice squad’ set of kids. Like 90 scholarships (85 players travel, some are injured) and 30 practice squad kids who never lose eligibility. You could be practice squad for two years before starting your 4 years…just like being at a JUCO.

Good catch. I’m sure he didn’t realize that.

What does graduating change?

I just don’t get how the numbers work…definitely seems like we’re building a 120 man roster.

We'll just have to get rid of more walk-ons than normal.

You do realize that LSU lost roughly 17 guys from the 2023 class to the Transfer portal. That’s why they had to go get so many guys. It’s not like these numbers come out of thin air.
