Can someone smarter than me come up with a way to actually base Name, Image, or Likeness $’s on the fair market value of a player? As opposed to these shell corps from wealthy fan bases just throwing whatever amount they chose at a recruit. Seems like that was the spirit of NIL and as exhaustingly discussed that quickly went south.

Fair market value for most players as to their actual importance and value to a real company is probably close to zero, but this has nothing to do with NIL the way players actually are valued.

It's the Wild, Wild, West baw ... there are no rules for CFB and NIL. Pay for Play is in full force until the NCAA comes up with a set of standards or Rules and Regulations. That ain't happening anytime soon.

This isn’t possible.

It either has to be allowed or not. There is no way to control it.

Perhaps make them choose between scholarships or NIL.

For NIL, your fair market value is exactly what someone is willing to pay you.

It makes you feel like every school and athlete who's ever been disciplined before for inappropriate benefits before NIL should have some type of recourse.

The amount of money Jimbo's making, he could set up these shell corporations himself and pay these athletes tens of thousands of dollars to ensure his success, and that would be worth more than the mock advertising these guys do for some big local company.

Its like CFB's soul has been sold! It seems like it will result in a decrease in fanatic support and an erosion of tradition!

Why is this even necessary?

There are metrics you can use but end of the day it's totally subjective so never had a chance of being enforceable.

The only thing the NCAA could really do is crack down on schools promising money ahead of time to recruits, which is completely illegal but clearly not being followed by the likes of ATM.

Fair market value is the price the buyer is willing to pay.

It's not anymore complicated than that.

I get that and I’m probably not using the correct terminology. I guess what I’m trying to say is Jacoby Matthews’ name, image or likeness isn’t worth $500,000 (or whatever they’re giving him). He’s worth $500,000 to be on their football roster, but his NIL isn’t.

False.

Getting the best players increases the odds of winning. Winning brings in money not only to the school itself but also to the city and businesses around the college. Therefore investing in a good player is a business decision that is very beneficial to these businesses.

On3 has actually tried doing this don’t know how accurate it really is but beside every player on their player rankings is their NIL value based off social media followers and the like

If someone is paying him 500k for NIL then that would be how much he worth right?

Sure it's possible.. People have been doing paid commercials and paid autograph sessions for years. The dollars associated with those agreements are what sets that market value.

As far as the scholarships go, I understand these to be "need based", so I agree, if the kid is making grown man money, he can pay grown man bills and grown man taxes.

I think we'll learn more and more cases where young kids get a ton of money and end up broke cause mom, auntie, and unc need their piece of the pie.

Excellent point. I had not thought of it from that angle. When you step back and look at it from the wider perspective, I can see that. That kind of blew my whole point of view on that out the water.

Heard that - he makes a great point.
