Excellent... thanks for the clarification Indy.
SO... with what you’ve said, our best bet for Hampton would be for us to hold a spot until June 3rd or shortly after the MLB draft, or at least unless we get some set in stone guarantee that he is not going baseball. That way we don’t lose out on one of our 25 scholly spots.
Worst case, if he goes MLB in June then we can still use his spot for a summer/fall transfer or towards 2020 class. In today’s recruiting world I’m not sure that we can afford to let him sign in either normal signing period and then see him walk out on us to MLB in June.

LSU may not allow him to sign until it is known for sure whether he will attend college or not. He may have to miss summer workouts. But there is the potential to lose a scholarship for the year by signing him.
They aren’t going to know more in Feb.

While that sounds great, the kid is likely going to need his LSU football scholarship for leverage in baseball contract negotiations. Sucks, but that’s reality I’m afraid.
One other thing, I counted 3 early enrollees for us. Bama has 14. I think that’s quite an advantage for them.

Do we really want McClendon and McCallum to sign early?
You got a problem with the Irish boyo?

He won't have to sign an NLI in February though to use college as leverage. He'll have plenty of options this summer. Either LSU will still have a spot for him, or someone else will.
I'd love him in this class, but I don't think we should sign him until after the baseball signing deadline. Even if he wanted to, there's no way he could give us any legitimate assurances about making it to campus until after the draft and subsequent negotiating process.

Ok... then there should really be an exception process for scholly losses due to MLB draft.

No. He just needs the threat of playing college ball.
We should take 24 and see what Hampton does.
If he signs then great. If he doesn't then we can sign 26 players in a deep Louisiana year in 2020

Bear Bryant used to have guys on a golf scholarship to play football. So the NCAA made a rule against it.

Not allowed. If you are on the football team you are either on a football scholarship, or a walk-on and can't be on scholarship anywhere else.
Sure you could do it. You offer him a baseball scholarship and keep a football scholly open. After summer, if he does not sign with the pros, give him the football scholly. If he signs with the pros give the football scholly to a juco.

leverage
I my opinion for what it's worth, his leverage is his talent and the chance the team who drafts him wants to take. There are no minor leagues in the NFL. If he is that good in football he goes directly to the bigs. I don't understand the thinking of some of the young guys. It seems to be a no-brain-er.

They were saying on 97.7 ESPN radio that Ray Parker wasn't signing tomorrow, waiting till February. Any word on this? If true I would assume it has something to do with grades?
I didn't get to hear them talk about it, just a brief mention before I had to get to work

Dealing with personal problems. Still up in the air if he signs or not tomorrow

Depends on how some things fall. 21-22

Who?
18, plus...
Ika?
Ray Jones?
Dean?
If we somehow get all of them, which is unlikely, that still is only 21. Everyone else on the watchlist seems to be a February signee unless I am missing something

Zipperer still up for grabs, too. Not likely, but not impossible.
