No, the worst is you saying that Ohio State's Chris Carter is a better receiver than LSU has ever had.
That shite take is so hilariously terrible.

Kelly took a team with 39 scholarship players heading into spring ball
LSU had 39 scholarship players available for the Texas bowl, but had more scholarship players on the roster. Several were injured and others suspended for the bowl game. Kelly did an amazing job, but the 39 number is often misquoted on these boards.

I’m just wondering, are the folks complaining on here, some of the same folks talking, Jay is in over his head, Jay will never win a NC, Jay should have pitched this guy or that guy, Jay should have pulled him?
Asking for a friend.

Not really. A good number of those 39 available either transferred out or ran out of scholarship.
39 might not be the exact number, but it's damn close.

The actual number is well over 50.

Thanks to tPortal it really isn’t mandatory to have the #1 recruiting class anymore. Yes it’s good to aim for it but for quite a few of these guys we miss out on now we will be re-recruiting them within 2 years anyway

You probably thought the same with baseball and Jay Johnson
You believe the competition for baseball talent is as intense as for football or basketball players?

Recruiting ranking guy is the worst possible person to be
The rankings aren't the sole factor in determining a NC contender. But to dismiss them as a predictive metric for championship success is foolish. Alabama, Georgia, Ohio St have signed more "blue-chip" players (4-5 star players) over the last 3-4-5 years (in aggregate) than any other school in the country. They have also won more games than everyone else during that time.
A school doesn't have to be number 1 in the ranking year after year to be a title. And being in the top 10 multiple times in row doesn't guarantee a title (ask Texas). But a school does have to have 3-4 classes than, on average, rank at least with in the top 10 to have an actual shot. About 20 years of data has shown that to be the case.
As long as LSU is in the top 10 year after year (preferably top 5), I'm confident BK will have them contending. It's if/when they fall out...in February...not July...that it will be time to worry.
EDT: What is hurting LSU a bit in the rankings, right now, is that this Louisiana class doesn't look to rank quite as strong as some prior Louisiana classes. Given LA is where LSU has, for the last 20 years, primarily built their teams from, that checks out. Still, those player rankings are subject to change and come December Louisiana could have a class ranked in line with most prior LA classes. If that happens, LSU's overall ranking will go up as well because if there is one thing BK and his staff seem to be doing this year, it is completely locking down the state. All 10 of the top 10 players in the state are currently committed to LSU or LSU is viewed as the leader.

Not really, he didn’t rank some of these guys that failed to live up to the 5* billing!
That’s the thing with players you sign, they all get the same start, the same everything when you get to LSU, it’s what you do with it that makes the player.
Yeah, I get that, but case by case:

2019
Kardell Thomas
Trey Plamer
Marcel Brooks
Kardell never stood out. What, 3 years under O and 1 under Kelly?
Maybe a misvaluation, maybe he just wasn't motivated.
Brooks and Palmer transferred out, right? How'd they do at their new programs?
quote:
2020:
Arik Gilbert
Elias Ricks
K. Boutte
Gilbert isn't meant for football, and he might not really have what it takes for life.
I think if Boutte and Ricks had gone somewhere more stable than LSU in 2020 they would have been successes.
quote:
2021:
Maason Smith
Sage Ryan
Book is still out on them.
quote:
2022:
Perkins
Wiggins
Walker Howard
Book is still out on them, but Perkins is already a wild success.

That's just not true. Over 50 before the bowl game, sure. Some guys couldn't or didn't play, thus the 39 for the bowl game. Some of those bowl players ran out of eligibility.
Our scholarship roster was only in the 70's last season, and 32 of them joined after the bowl game.

How was Campbell not a 5 star?

Because he signed with LSU and didn't play the recruiting game.

Like I said, you would do better to rank kids after a few years in college.

He was ranked a 5 star until he committed. Like the guy said above you have to play the game to stay on top for that long . An early commit doesn't drive many clicks for these services.

Like I said, it would be better to rank them after a couple years in college. You are right about click bait.

This idea that we're not going "all out" for HS players because we're focusing on the transfer portal is absolutely ludicrous.

We need the oilfield services companies to step up. If we continue to rely on injury attorneys and restauranteurs we will stay behind the curve.
