I know the recruiting gurus liked Tom lugenthil talked about that a ton this year that because of covid and extra years of eligibility they said a significant number of players like 20-30% were likely going to portal themselves out of football meanwhile a lot of smaller schools would lose really good players particularly older players that had proven their worth.

They said portal wasn’t going to be as player friendly as kids are thinking. It will be interesting to see if that’s correct. He knows his shite

I am betting it’s like NFL free agency where bidding war for few too guys, offers to some and at the end a lot of surprised players flipping burgers. Power shifts from players to colleges after the frenzy slowly but surely

While they may end up not getting picked up I would imagine they were not playing or playing very very little at their current school. I would bet that most of those kids are just ready to be done if they aren't getting playing time and are just taking a swing at the portal.

There’s going to be more than a few guys who are going to find themselves without a chair when the music stops playing.

Most are returning to their teams. I’d imagine there are plenty of takers at the smaller colleges for highly ranked players who missed out on their top choices.

Deion Sanders mentioned it in his speech to Jackson State players. Something to the extent of 56% find new homes, 4% stay and 40% get lost in the portal.

Not sure how much of this is true.

Only about 40% get picked up so, 60% don’t.

They have a pie chart somewhere. I’m on the road this morning I’ll try to find it later.

From ESPN, “ In fact, almost half of the players who transfer don't find a new school to attend.”

I was very surprised by how few find a new home and how risky it is for the person transferring. I’m sure it will improve as people figure out all the rules.
