Not sure what the backstory is with those two and curious with our lack of DB's and 2 higher 4* kids in state.

Sometimes you have start recruiting guys early and showing them love from the very beginning or you'll never compete with the schools that do. Given the current staff only came in a year ago I'd say the lack of established relationships with the current staff hurt them compared to the staffs Matthews and Reed gave commitments.

Reed - yes

Matthews - no. For whatever reason the staff slow played him

IIRC, reed had a bad injury and there were questions on if it recovered properly and Matthew’s supposedly got slow played a bit/had a long-standing relationship with the Texas staff and moved on.

I think we slowplayed both of them, but I’m not sure it would have mattered. They both seemed set on leaving state anyway.

The new staff got on Matthews just way too late. They saw him in the summer and (re)offered (old staff had offered already) but it wasnt enough at that point.

Fairly certain they’d take both

Matthews is another Louisiana kid that demanded more from LSU than from out of state school

As he should. He had an offer from the old regime. It took the new staff half the year to offer him

So what. He visited LSU twice before visiting Tennessee. Obviously LSU had interest.

He’s not a dummy nor is his dad. The DB room was left in shambles, it takes time to sort out what you have and what’s out there offered.

Say whatever you want. The staffs angle on in state guys clearly changed after they lost matthews. For that reason.

Easy to say so what when it’s not you hoss

My god, Matthew's HS HC is a former LSU QB... he probably has keys to the weight room.

Reed was recovered from his injury since the beginning of the summer!! Kid had an excellent year I watched him about 4 games and only witnessing him give up 1 catch he completely shutdown Khai Prean to the point where they had to switch Khai to the opposite side of the field.

thats bs. Kid would have easy path to early playing time at his state school and his coach is an LSU alum and former player? How much a55 kissing is needed? Wish the kid good luck. Worry bout the ones you get.

It’s not really BS. Think about in your life when you want a raise at work, and feel like you deserve it but they tell you no, you aren’t good enough at what you do. And you have other job options that will appreciate you.

Jordan matthews doesn’t owe lsu anything. Players that have options have all the power. When moreso with NIL. And that’s basically who lsu recruits. Players with offers to play anywhere

Weird. I haven’t said anything remotely polarizing.

Probably can be attributed to the national approach by Polian and co.

I think you’ll see a ton of improvement in retaining Louisiana talent moving forward. Just have to like the guys who we hope to land and keep in this class from CB’s (Austin, Toviano, Ricks) despite losing out on some impactful instate DBs
