Five of the top fifteen players in Louisiana for 2019 are cornerbacks, including the number one corner in the country and a total of four top in the top 250. Losing Surtain probably increases our chances of getting Stingley and perhaps two of the other four:

Derek Stingley 5 star
Devin Bush 4 Star
Chester Kimbrough 4 Star
Jordan Clark 4 Star
Gregory Brooks 3 star

It sucks we missed on Surtain and Goodrich, but our fail could not have happened in a better year. 2019 for corners in La is like 2018 was for receivers.

All signs point to us having a huge DB class along with OL. And it’s all much needed

Well to be fair, I didn’t write that it’s a good thing we did not sign a corner this year. It was a fail. The silver lining is that the 2019 corner class in La is about as stacked as it possibly could be.

Hopefully we get at least four corners next year. We only signed one corner the last two years. It’s very possible our corner depth chart in 2019 will be Vincent, Joseph borrowed from safety, and true freshmen.

I don’t care how good these 2019 guys are supposed to be, they are still freshmen. Fulton and Savion were five stars, and neither were college ready.

Could see that especially the current year. Try to find a guy with one year to help immediately and if a multi year kid that we think can help for a couple years is there, grab him too.
Definitely 3, try for 4 for 19. Grab Stingley and Bush, then press oos kids while taking stock of the other instate kids.

Cornerback fail silver lining
There is no silver lining. We would have needed these guys whether we got Surtain or not, and with Miles we loaded up on corners in just about every class (too much at some times).

Not really. Even getting Surtain and Goodrich would have left us with depth issues. Right now we are putting athletes and safeties at corner because we have zero depth.

Fulton is up in the air, and LSU can't catch a break with medical redshirts so Paris is also up in the air, and should be removed from CB discussion. We would have had Greedy and Surtain as starters with Vincent probably playing nickel and backing up one of the guys with Goodrich backing up the other. In total 5 corners (including Kirklin) without having anybody switch positions "this year".

With Greedy likely declaring early, you would have only 4 real corners and LSU is DBU, so we need at least 7 on deck. Stingley sees that opportunity to start. The others see that opportunity to start/claim a backup spot (where they would see action early and often).

Georgia and Alabama have 5 stars being backups and still get 5 star recruits at those positions. I don't wanna hear excuses. We needed those guys and we need these 2019 guys.

There is also Jontre Kirklin playing CB. Another possibility is if Fulton stays. So then you have:

Vincent
Fulton
Kirklin
Joseph
and true freshman

Really not all that bad

Again it's all in how you look at things, Kevin Tolliver and Tredavious White were freshman when they were starting and fared well for us those years. You can look at it negatively or positively, there are success and fail stories for both points of view.

So I have written twice now that not getting Surtain and or Goodrich was a fail. Of course we needed corners this year.

So your argument is that its not a good thing or silver ling that 2019 is loaded with corners?

Would we not be in way more trouble if in 2019 there were no top corners in La?

I get why everyone is mad we didn't get Surtain, I am too. But can we not still post stuff that is remotely positive when supported by the facts?

Next year is a great year for corners and given we did not get one this year, I truly do not understand how the state being loaded with corners next year is not a silver lining.

i mean, so what? we can start all young players again? and when you load up too much in one class it creates an unecessary gap between the classes, making you short on players once again when these guys bounce.

Ed orgeron was supposed to make recruiting better and fix the unbalance in some of the past classes. hes done the fricking opposite creating more problems.

You're making me think about this same time last year.

I was so stoked imagining how stacked our DB haul was gonna be cuz at the time LSU was the frontrunner for:

Patrick Surtain
Anthony Cook
Kelvin Joseph
Nadab Joseph

It's still hard to process how DBU, which looked so promising early on & had annually been a NSD position group of Tiger pride, mind-boggling underwhelmed.

How many times does the OP have to say he's not saying losing out on Surtain and Goodrich is a good thing and he's simply looking forward?
