Confused as to why we're behind regarding NIL.

It's not that complicated.

Whatever you were paying under the table, now you just do it openly and funnel it through some business for "marketing." Should be easy AF. What's the problem?

Because you have to find a legitimate business and find a legal way to funnel the money to them. So Joe's Tire Shop and washateria can sponsor an LSU player. That does not happen overnight.

We probably have too much shite thats being looked at by the NCAA for off the field stuff and dont want to draw any extra eyes. Who knows. From the day NIL was announced and the way LSU promoted it, i was excited. But maybe they are trying to do it smart and not throwing millions at a player and could bite us in the arse.

Especially since we have a female gymnast that’s signed the biggest NIL deal than any athlete in the country thus far.

Texas GDP $2 Trillion
Louisiana GDP $257 Billion

Texas has Big Bank compared to Louisiana. It is not remotely close.

That's literally not it at all.

Not every business or alumni likes to cheat. NIL allows people and legitimate business the opportunity to pay players, without cheating.

The dollars are also astronomically higher. You aren't asking for $1,000 bucks in a McDonald's bag.

We're not used to doing things legally in this state.

It comes down to putting money on the line.

Boosters going to their companies to write big checks.

I'm not certain this is a good time presently for Oil Companies.

Has BBQ.com done an NIL for LSU? They are based in Baton Rouge and starting to advertise on TV.

Do y’all really think our boosters just paid $20 million to get rid of O and staff just to sit on their hands when it comes time to pony up for players?

The issue this cycle is we’ve been dog shite for 2 years and we have a new coach with no preexisting relationships. All that yet we still signed 2 five stars and have made up the ground we lost over the last 3 months with a lot of others in the span of 15 days.

Unlike other universities, LSU has never paid players before. It’s obvious we are behind because this is new to us and not so much to others.

All the donors are paying the buyouts, they’re out of money this year to give

Not really. See the "Horns for Hearts" or whatever "non-profit" the Texas folks set up where the players just do some community service.

I think the issue is that, now, with how much easier and more widespread it's become, the same amounts that were "enough" under the prior set-up are now insufficient.

So it's not just a matter of finding people to be the "front" for the money you were already giving out--you've got to find a way to actually give out (a lot) *more* money.

I actually think this is an area where our natural Louisiana recruiting advantages will REALLY shine through. There are a lot of kids out there who want to play for LSU regardless of what they get paid. It's certainly not all of them, but I would hazard a guess that we have as many or more of those kids than just about any other school. This is illustrated by the fact that we really didn't lose much of our recruiting class after firing our coach.

Obviously, if we want to keep rocking and rolling with top 5 classes, we are going to have to pick up the NIL game... But I think we've got a pretty good situation regardless--and we won't have to rely SOLELY on NIL for commits like some schools (cough, aggy)

Agree 100%. LSU/Louisiana still have the money to compete. Relationships still matter, though, and we just changed our coach. Everyone is freaking out about Texas, but their average star ranking isn’t that great. And everyone assumes that NIL explains A&M’s class, but Jimbo recruited very well as FSU as well.

If I’m a business owner with money to spend, tell me why I would want to spend it on an 18,19 year old kid that can enter the transfer portal the next spring!

It was put in place for more established players to make money on their NIL. (Myles getting the Ford truck deal, Stingley getting a Cane's deal, etc.) You can clearly see it's being used more as a recruiting tool. If I owned a business I would rather give to an established player than a high school kid with star next to his name. This is all new to everyone. Once businesses get burned on players not living up to the hype. It will settle down from giving unproven kids so much money

When you lose your DC and not one recruit bats an eye at him leaving, tells you exactly what's going on

It's really incredible who we've signed so far with no OC or DC... I'm happy as can be.
