This is so fricking exciting lol finally we get some real info on this.

It's refreshing to have the program run by people who can keep shite like this under wraps.

Now, the next question: Who could it be? If its under wraps still, then that must mean it's somebody in the playoff, right? Gattis? The Cincy OC? I'd personally be hype for Gattis.

You guys act like you think most recruits are getting paid some decent $$. I doubt that seriously. All but a select few super high 4* and 5* players are going to share in the wealth.

I mean you're demonstrably wrong. Just in the past week, there has been all kinds of publicity about this stuff happening. There was the thing with Texas OL all making a certain amount. Jimbo came out and basically said that everyone was getting paid. Kiffin did the same.

You're naive if you think that a huge number of these guys aren't getting paid. Are a huge number of them making millions? No. Only the top few guys are making that much. But if you're a 4 or 5*, you can 100% find a place to make some $.

And some team like Iowa with 3 star 5 year guys will win a championship

I will bet you every dollar in my bank account that this doesn't happen. Your logic is that it's easier than ever to poach elite talent... therefore it will take less elite talent than ever to win a championship?

No team in the era of modern recruiting rankings has EVER won a championship unless their roster has been made up of >50% 4 and 5*s. Google "blue chip ratio".

That's not going to magically change because it becomes easier for kids to transfer. If anything, it will go in the OPPOSITE direction--you will need an even HIGHER ratio of blue chips in order to win, because it's now easier for top programs to poach them.

There’s a reason why programs like Baylor and Cincinnati are having success with lower ranked players out of high school!

Correct--and that reason is because they don't have to play teams that are stacked with 4 and 5 star talent.

Recruiting solely 3* kids with one or two low-end 4*s here and there works when you are in the AAC or even the big 12, but it doesn't work in the SEC. You can beat a team with elite talent if you only play one or two of them per year, but you're not gonna make it through a schedule where you have to play teams like that every single week for your entire schedule. Cincy and Baylor would both be 4 loss teams if they were in the SEC west.

Like it or not, you have to recruit blue chips if you want to compete in the SECW and contend for national titles.

Damn i didn't realize people on here hated the free market so much

People posting stuff like this totally unironically will never not make me laugh out loud.

Whatever you were paying under the table, now you just do it openly and funnel it through some business for "marketing."

I think the issue is that, now, with how much easier and more widespread it's become, the same amounts that were "enough" under the prior set-up are now insufficient.

So it's not just a matter of finding people to be the "front" for the money you were already giving out--you've got to find a way to actually give out (a lot) *more* money.

I actually think this is an area where our natural Louisiana recruiting advantages will REALLY shine through. There are a lot of kids out there who want to play for LSU regardless of what they get paid. It's certainly not all of them, but I would hazard a guess that we have as many or more of those kids than just about any other school. This is illustrated by the fact that we really didn't lose much of our recruiting class after firing our coach.

Obviously, if we want to keep rocking and rolling with top 5 classes, we are going to have to pick up the NIL game... But I think we've got a pretty good situation regardless--and we won't have to rely SOLELY on NIL for commits like some schools (cough, aggy)
