The failure rate by those have tried does kind of make it unprecedented

True, but its been done before. Charlie Ward immediately comes to mind as an athlete who excelled in both sports.

A guy who won the Heisman and then played a decade in the NBA is not a go-to reference for being able to play two sports in college. He's an outlier.

Most guys that try it aren't as good at either sport as he was at both.

And that was in the early 90s.

I agree that it is difficult and not practical.

That being said its been done before, several at LSU.

Football/Baseball -Chad Jones/Mo Hampton...

Football/Track -Trindon Holiday/ Tre Palmer...

Basketball/Baseball -Ben McDonald/Lyle Mouton

Depends on the sports. Track and football is doable for wr’s or db’s. There have been a decent amount of pitchers/football players. Football and basketball Julius peppers comes to mind but he was more of a role guy in basketball. Hard to be very good at both.

Was talking specifically for football and basketball. Cant remember the last time a guy lasted more than a year or 2 playing both. And even contributing on the basketball court, nonetheless.

What do you think about Kaine Williams, bunchie? Saw him at rivals and was not impressed. He looked like a future DE playing FS.

He’s good. Saw him in person get shut down though. He’s not near top 100.

I always thought Brad Bridgewater would have been a monster DE if he had stuck to football out of HS.

This doesn’t help your case. Both quit basketball to concentrate on baseball.

That’s what happens. Players realize the time commitment and quit one sport.

I can’t recall a single LSU player who has ever played football and basketball all the way through.

Hard to play both when you're playing football past new year's day. Gives you essentially two months then the NCAA tourney.

Yep you’re spot on. People aren’t realizing that “two sport athlete” in general is FAR easier than “football and basketball athlete.” The overlap between the seasons is too extreme and both require basically full attention from a practice standpoint. A football/basketball double is a totally different monster than football/track or football/baseball

Since the SEC has cancelled all sporting events thru March 30 … link with tweet from Dellinger , curious if this will affect Coleman and other scheduled recruiting visits ? I imagine so since LSU will want to be PC, and visits will be re-scheduled once this stuff settles down.

It's all canceled and will be rescheduled.
