Because if Brennan is healthy he knows he's QB3 in the room going into next season. It's not a secret Max came in end of last season and got a leg up on him. The question is how patient is Finley.

Why is it a waste of a scholarship, he may be great and might actually stay at least yrs. Arik Gilbert was a waste of a scholarship.

This kid's video, at no point, says "PWO". I have no idea what is missing from his game but his video certainly says P5 QB! Plus he has a 29 ACT.

Could this possibly be the writing on the wall for a quarterback to enter the portal? I could see the scholarship offer be the response of a new need, if a quarterback were about to leave. I have no evidence to suggest this, just trying to understand why the offer was extended late in the process.

Man all you guys hyperventilating over this Lourd kid need to get a grip. You guys think O and Peetz are stupid? Thought 99% of you loved the Peetz hire? If we offer this kid a full scholarship then there must be a damm good reason. Something is going on that we would do that. Either they see a real diamond in the rough (name Joe Burrow ring a bell) or there is someone (TJ) my guess who is considering transferring.

All the people saying this is a waste of scholarship have not seen the film on this kid. Some of these other kids with huge numbers sit behind big o-lines and got all the time in the world to throw it up. Kid scrambles, avoids tackles, and still can throw laser beams. Has a great long ball. Looks pretty tough and appears to be a Joe Burrow-type quarterback.

Some people are, as always, blinded by recruiting rankings and offer lists, which are skewed in this covid year. I'm certainly not an expert quarterback evaluator, but I at least played the position in high school and my freshman year in college.
I loved his film. It's just as impressive as Nussmeir's film, but we're conditioned to fall for the guy with all the hype. Nuss may turn out to be better, but who knows? I really like this kid, and if we're losing one or two of the other quarterbacks, this could be a really good offer.

Also, he was working out with quarterback consultant Jordan Palmer and Joe Burrow last March. Maybe Burrow said something to the staff?

? but if LSU needs another QB in this class, there are problems in depth right now. MB must be looking like not coming back and somebody is leaving.

I think the new OC and PGC hires basically reset the entire QB room. Max may very well wind up starting game 1, but it will be much more about what he does from now to September than what he did in December. With the logjam of 3 freshmen and the winner having the inside track to being a 3-year-starter, I think they’ve got to open it completely up to everyone, including Nussmeir.
And I’m not sure Howard is coming. And I wouldn’t blame him. Especially if one of the 3 freshmen clearly emerges as the starter and has a good year. It’s one thing to not be afraid of competition, but it’s another to not put yourself in the best position for success. Better to compete against 1 or 2 guys around your classification than 4.
It’s also why I think if they really like this Lourd kid—and I’d bet Peetz does—then they should absolutely take him. A Lourd in the hand and all that.
(I am taking Brennan out of my equation because of the big unknown of his health. Obviously if he’s good to go in the Spring, that changes things drastically.)
