Maybe the coaches can convince our guys that they could be the Clemson D-line from this year. All older guys who get tons of exposure for all staying last year.

Shelvin, Logan and Farrell look like they will develop into nice starters. Go look at Farrell against A&M. He was a key on many of the stops we had when they tried to run in OT.

Shelvin is strong but simply needs to get into better shape. It's why I wish we would start some of these guys earlier so they can see that they aren't ready for themselves and what kind of work it's going to take for them to make that next jump.

I'm not worried about next year. We'll be fine next year. I'm worried about the year after that. If we don't sign some real legit contributors, highly rated or not then we'll be in the exact same position as this year where we have to keep the starters out there bc the second team just isn't ready. If LSU wants to take that next step then we need to sign some real legit DLman in 2019 to go with that great class of 2020. We will also need to sign like 4 more elite type of guys in 2021.

I wouldn't stop recruiting 4 every year until we have a legit 2 man and 3 man rotation. I would also get 1 or 2 rush ends every year. I think LSU should start recruiting the DL, OL and QB position with a different aggression or a different priority then all other positions. These 3 positions can make or break any team.

Except those Clemson guys are first round talent and ours are 5-7th round -UFA talent. I like them as players and respect them as people and players, but I’m not going to pretend they are top 60 type players. Especially this year. Convincing them to stay should just be explaining reality to them and showing them the list of all the better players available. Every DL on the LSU roster should stay for their own development and their own long term good.

LSU will have good depth in 2020 with guys like Thomas and Cotton backing up Logan and Ferrell. Much older than the backups we had this year.

The problem is, who is the NFL player among that group? I think that's a bunch of solid players and that's fine when we'll be stacked at CB and LB, but I don't know if it's good enough to beat Bama or what Georgia will have by then.

LSU has to get another 4* DL in this class for that reason. Sopsher, Young, Handy, Ika, etc.

Shhh way to much common sense for this board! You are spot on! Everyone is coming back on our front five, plus Chaisson who is well ahead of schedule.

I think Logan and Farrell could develop into NFL players. Farrell's career thus far looks a lot like Quinnen Williams. Williams redshirted as a freshman and had something like 20 tackles his second year. We all saw what he did in his third year, where he's probably developed into a top 10 pick in the draft.

Also, did you know that coming out of HS, 247 had Logan ranked ahead of Williams?

This is my argument. I mean having Depth is great but quality Depth is what UGA and Bama have and LSU dosent have. LSU used to rotate 5 and 6 guys on the Dline and not loose much when they rotated. Thats is not the case anymore is all im saying and Ed O and meatball are not filling that Depth with Top flight guys to go along with descent players. We will continue to be owned by top teams along the defensive front until this changes.

How do you propose we outbid Bama for Sophire?

You have to give it to O. He is developing the projects he's brought in. Farrell has really come on and made some nice plays in his Sophomore season. Glen Logan has shown steady improvement throughout the season. Hopefully, Justin Thomas will work out as well.

Exactly. All we need to do is look at the All-SEC team that came out yesterday. In the trenches, grand total of 0 for LSU. Bama had 2 o-linemen on 1st team, 1 D-lineman on 1st team, and 2 D-linemen on 2nd team. Until we can get those guys somehow, nothing will change.

You are right on Quinnen Williams. Player development will be huge for LSU this offseason, but to this point, nobody has shown they can develop players like Bama. OU on offense is about the only team at that level.

Farrell isn't as athletic as Williams. Logan has good athleticism but needs to live in the weight room to put on muscle like Williams did.

all this means is that O knows that he will not land the big fish at the position

you know, maybe not, but i will say this, its kids like this that are what turned LSU around... the Glen Dorseys, Tyson Jacksons's etc... That kid doesnt look bad at all... 6'3 285 is a good size end for us... now i like 4-5 stars as much as the next guy... but not alot of people waltz in to minden LA looking for the next biggest thing... if he shows the talent , you grab him, coach him, and you dont think twice about it... get them LA kids and build a damn wall around this place... hell Devin White came out of springhill, and he may go down as one of the best LBs ever at LSU...

Farrell is getting better every play.I expect him to be a monster getting first team snaps by mid year.Heard Thomas was lazy in high school. Hopefully someone gets him motivated.
