What’s lost to most is the additions of new coaches to this staff. Ex player Jaylen Courtney from Creighton and of course David Patrick bring a new energy particularly to the offense side. Practices this year are completely different from before. High energy and Tempo is what these kids want to play. It’s helping recruiting and hopefully leads to more wins. Will be fun to watch. Jump on boys.

McMahon has talked about playing fast since literally his introductory press conference. They did so last year (LSU was in the top 60 of 363 in pace of play). So the desire to do so is not necessarily a new development. But they have to be able to do so while not turning the ball over constantly. LSU wasn't a bad shooting team last year in terms of FG%. They were 5th in the SEC behind Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn, Florida (all NCAAT teams). What absolutely killed their efficiency was turnovers. They were 287th in TO%. If they can get that number way down they have a chance to be solid offensively. McMahon runs some decent stuff in the halfcourt. But it doesn't matter that much if you are throwing the ball the other team.

More than offense though, they MUST get better on defense. Everyone focuses on the offense, but the defense has been worse. This team is probably McMahon's "longest" team since he's been at LSU. It could be his best athletically. Thus, it seems like the ingredients for a decent defensive team could be there. IMO, that's where everything has to start. Being really good defensively gives you a chance in almost every game.

Alt I completely agree about defense and rebounding. It’s being taught as usual but it appears there’s more effort on all aspects of the game w this group. He plans to truly play 10 guys which goes against his norm. The amount of production on bench should make us a better defensive team on the wings and our big rotation is very active and athletic . CMM knows he’s tournament or bust. I think they surprise the league and make it in.

Redfish, you seem like you may be in the know a little bit. Is there a player on the roster who doesn’t get a lot of mention that may surprise us this year?

Corey Chest is incredibly active big. Many will question why he sat last year when they see him play. Sears is ultimate floor leader every good team needs. Very excited to get started

What do you think of Vyk Miller? In the practice clip I have seen he was solid from 3 and looked every bit of 6'5".

Looking forward to basketball every year.
College football and basketball are my favorites.

Do you see Collins contributing in any way this season?

[Raises hand]

Beyond Dean, LSU lacked toughness in the frontcourt. It's why they were often outrebounded. I see Chest a little bit like Emmett Williams. He's not a guy who has an incredibly skilled offensive game. But he make plays, particularly on defense and on the glass, because of effort combined with good athleticism.

Hope so.

The scoring numbers were good last year. Part of that can be attributed to UT-Martin playing at a fast pace and taking a lot of shots. But he also shot over 40% from inside and outside the arc. The concern is (1) he had a lot of turnovers too..that killed LSU's offense last season and (2) at 5'11 with nothing big mid-major experience can he be effective SEC? McMahon's first PG (Williams EDT: Hill) was likewise a sub 6'0 guy who had good success in the OVC, but struggled in the SEC. Especially at getting to the rim. the numbers say Sears is a better outside shooter than Williams, so hopefully that mitigates the size concerns. That will be a big position to watch because LSU doesn't have an experienced, true PG, they can turn to if Spears struggles.

Yeah, hopefully Sears’ can be a veteran leader on this team. Mike Williams is more of an off guard IMO and while the early talk on Givens is encouraging, it’s probably not a good thing if he has to play extensive minutes as a true freshman. I do think we’ll see Givens’ minutes increase over time this season though.

Quit derailing this bitch session by talking about the recruit in his BOOM thread.

Welcome aboard Mazi! I like your pull up shooting.

Usually don't take much from highlight reels but he has a smooth quick release with a lot of strength / range on his shot.

I wonder if all the retards on the rant/Wade worshipers who have been calling for McMahon’s head will give him any credit if he gets this thing rolling again.

For sure, when he wins a tournament game, Retard.
Third year.
Wade had an SEC Championship his second.

From your tone, I don't believe you'd even give him credit at that point, simply because he's not your guy.

I don't need to give it until he has earned it.
From insiders who should know, this should be the year to shut up us doubters.
