Best recruiting approach for schools lacking NIL

Have to recruit more 4 and 3 stars and coach them up….
kids that come in making a little money but bust their arse on the field to make more money after a year or two in the program and hopefully prepare for the nfl
This approach is not an overnight success, would take 2-3 years to build

We have some really good coaches and developers on staff.
Davis, Peoples, Baker, and Raymond all have proven track records of player development.
I’m a little underwhelmed by Hankton, and Sloan. I wouldn’t mind grabbing a guru at OC at least.
I think the current defensive staff, is very far ahead of our offensive staff as far as player development goes.

This is going to be the difference like in basketball. The biggest NIL guys are like mercenaries. The teams like Kentucky that got the top guys have actually fallen off. But the organizations that have recruited program guys and get in maybe that single superstar have built more long term success.

NIL is the "MLB" of college football. You can recruit the tops dogs, but in baseball they are likely going to MLB, and football now, the highest bidder.
Recruit those a little lower, a little under the radar, and have them make it to campus and coach them up as you said.

You need to recruit Louisiana guys and keep them home. Use home as an additional selling point with the NIL money. Then it’s absolutely crucial we hire the best coaches to develop them for the NFL. Sell them on home, NIL and their NFL future.
We have to get back to developing guys for the NFL. I believe the defensive staff is loaded with those type coaches and just need the talent now. The offensive staff is still debatable at this point.

Look at Indiana. Most of their players came from James Madison.

do people think LSU has had an issue recruiting?

At times we do when it comes to the 5 stars
Have lost several at the last minute over the years

Who on our staff is going to develop players? Just curious. We haven’t developed a single player this season. We may have gotten worse and it shows when we play any team with a heart beat.

Yeah idk why we are still playing Orgeron players. Kelly has had three recruiting classes and none of the young dbs can get on the field..

Raymond all have proven track records of player development.

Depends on what you mean by this question because LSU's recruiting is certainly not panning out. Is that bad scouting, coaching, or a combination of all of them? Because right now LSU consistently puts together underwhelming recruiting classes and it has been like this since the end of O's tenure here. This is largely why this team right now looks like it's a bottom tier SEC team. Whether it's coaching or not the recruiting is most definitely not panning out at LSU as you can see right now.
Wash the recruiting rankings out of your mind and go back to look at every class the past 5 years or so. Bust after bust after bust with most classes barely having anyone remain at LSU. This will be BK's 4th recruiting class I can barely identify any freshman/sophomores I can tell you right now will be studs on this roster. As for the rest of the more senior HS recruiting still on the roster? Who stands out to you? Campbell/Jones/Taylor?

Correct.
OP is suggesting an approach that LSU’s roster is full of. I’m confused.

And?
The only way to have success with a team full of JMU transfers is to play a schedule ranked 106th in SoS…

Right.
We have a roster full of 4 and 3 stars and we’re suggesting we recruit 4 and 3 stars and stop recruiting 5 stars, but coach them up???
LSU has had top 15 recruiting classes for the last 25 years. So the secret is to recruit less talented players and coach them up?
what is going on here?

LSU is number 7 in NIL funds according to 247 Sports. This does not apply to us.

If money was indeed a problem for LSU - which I don't think it's as bad as this board makes it out to be - then they should navigate around this disadvantage. One of the easiest ways to do this is build the largest scouting department in the NCAA. It can help you identify the players who fall through the cracks and are NFL players that not many other colleges are looking at. There's plenty of players who were not well recruited out of HS that are elite players. We need to do a better job identifying these guys.

Could there be a risk of the guys that do develop hitting the portal for a bigger NIL offer? It seems like NIL coupled with the Portal makes it hard all the way around.
