Lol NCAA athletes typically Lose fat weight and replace with lean muscle over their careers. Shedding baby fat if you will.
They eat better than anyone, train intensely and regularly.
He will be whatever weight the coaches want him to be. That’s why they measure their meal intakes, exercise programs etc.
Weight is the last issue on anyone’s mind.
He’ll probably lose 10 lbs over summer, and gain back 15 in lean muscle for the season.
Nobody worried about weight lol

I seriously think he could play both ways. He’s that good. Why not both? If Stingley can get reps as WR while also playing CB (this coming year per Ed O), why couldn’t Gilbert get reps at both TE and DE?
There’s no rule saying a player can’t play on both sides of the ball.
Champ Bailey, Chuck Bednarik, Dick Butkus, Bronko Nagurski and Several others all did it. Gilbert is that kind of athlete.

I’m not one of those “blindly follow your coaches” type guys but you really gotta believe Moffitt will put him where he needs to be.
And there is no TE too big as long as he can move. Keep him lean and the bigger, the better. Especially for red zones and first downs.

There’s a big difference in playing WR/DB and playing both sides of the trenches...

Only the rant would want to take a guy that was the highest ranked TE in 247’s history and change his fricking position

You're one of our "special" posters, aren't you? Well I'm here to tell you that you're doing great and can be anything you set your mind to.

I expect AK is trying to get Orgeron's attention, expecting a position on the staff as talent scout/evaluator.

___________
Gronk: 6-6, 265
Kelce: 6-5, 265
____________
This says enough!

If he's 6-5 290lbs and still athletic why does it matter? I highly doubt the best TE in the country will ever play OL.
Posted on 2/7/20 at 7:49 am to AustinKnight
Gilbert moves like he is 225 tho. So a little weight won't hurt.
Posted on 2/7/20 at 9:14 am to AustinKnight
I wouldn't be mad if he switched to a DE in a 4-3. He would be a monster on the D-line.

Look there was nothing in my original post that suggested that I wanted him to move positions. In fact I love the downvotes and bringing up legit topics for conversation no matter who agrees. People just downvote cause others do and don’t read the Topic and don’t wanna think it through to discuss and that’s fine. I’m looking for honest answers.
My original post was how do you keep his weight down as this Man-Child grows the next three years. Am honestly curious if anyone has been around a cyborg of a human like this before. Let’s face it he isn’t anything we have seen before at that position especially at this age. At least I haven’t. You really can’t compare his size to NFL guys because he has a lot of room to grow.

The vast majority of kids don’t grow that much after 18. He will add some muscle weight, but that’s about it. Doubt he grows much height wise. There have been plenty of recruits that come in at his size and stay a manageable weight. That’s what athletic trainers are paid to do. If they can keep every other player at a manageable weight then i think they can do the same for Gilbert
That’s exactly why you can compare him to nfl guys. Gilbert is around 250. He can gain 20 pounds and still be at the weight of highly successful TE’s

He measured 6’4” 246 at whatever all star game he was last at
He’ll leave LSU no bigger than 255-260
Moving him to DL? Lol come on.
Les Miles isn’t walking thru that door

Watch some film on the guy. He has the athleticism and speed to play TE, WR, DE.
At WR and TE his size and speed make him a nightmare mismatch against anyone.
Too big for TE? There is no such thing.

If you’ve never seen Gilbert’s highlights, I suggest you give them a look. He has the athleticism and ball skills of WRs 40 pounds lighter than him, which is what makes him so unique. As long as he can keep his athleticism while gaining good weight, he will be a matchup nightmare at TE

have you ever even seen this kids film??
