Rivers was a 3-star and Kiel is a 5-star. Definitely a large difference in quality of evaluation

Morris Claiborne 3 stars. He's only a finalist for the best DB in the country. i wouldn't put alot of stock into stars and ratings.

Stars are meaningless

In the pantheon of poor ideas for a thread, this one ranks right near the top.

So rivals and scout just throw stars against the wall to see what sticks huh? Hell if we get all 2* and ULM picks up some 5* then there would be no way to tell who had the best recruiting class. C'mon man, stars are definitely overrated but these people at rivals don't just sit in a room with star stickers and diddle themselves all day

phillip plays for possibly the worst coach in the afc. if his brother is half as talented, he will play for us.

If he's the best we've got, he will play. If not, he will either be travel squad or transfer - but that's all up to him (not his brother or the number of stars he came in with). I did find it interesting Miles comment earlier in the week (or maybe it was late last week) that Randle had ability to play in multiple positions. If anything is clear, in Miles' world you earn your place.

Rivers will actually play in 2012 while Kiel will certainly redshirt.
There would be no reason for Rivers to play with Mett here. There's no advantage athletically with Rivers on the field like with JJ/Lee

Man, I just clicked on Random LSU Hero's link to the '08 recruiting class. What a fantastic class that was. It's amazing how many of those guys are still on the team and contributing regularly this year.

Look what happened to that idiot from Arkansas who transferred to USC. He thought he could start immediately because he was the top QB in high school. Guess what? He never played again. High school talent means youre good in high school. Thats it.

I'm late to this party and not sure if it was discussed but I wanna say I heard that JR has been approached about going to maybe defensive back or another skilled position to make it more tempting for Kiel to come with less competition.

Yeah dumb to say, Garrett Gilbert was a 5 star guy that you might even say that about. They literally gave Stephen Rivers almost all the same knocks as they gave his brother, all of which hinge on their throwing motions which are identical and its crazy and awesome to see. Just hope Stephen can throw it away better than his brother has this season....

So what if he is 4th on the depth chart? Anyone remember a few years ago? Perrilloueaux 1st string- booted, Hatch 2nd string- dead, JJ 3rd string- injured, Lee 4th string- starting. You can end one season dead arse last and be called upon at any time. Hell look at this season, we had the backup starting through the Alabama game.

I agree. Also good how few of the recruits from that class have had character issues.

Clearly the * rating system for high school recruits is imperfect. Couldn't have a better example of that than comparing our only 5 *'s in that class: Patrick Peterson and Deangelo Benton. While Patrick is havin a "Rookie of the Year" type seaon in the NFL, Benton's yet to be a big contributor Auburn....
