all I want to know about the portal is if LSU is going as hard as it can after the Safety

from Purdue that is in the portal. A major stud in a much needed position for LSU. I think we need this kid more than any other player in the portal that I am aware of.

It doesn’t matter who is going after him. You get him to Baton Rouge and you do not let him leave without committing to LSU. He is absolutely a game changer on the back end and you have to start winning these battles. No excuses this kid needs to be in purple and gold!

LSU needs to bring in 2 starting transfer safeties. Gilbert is a waste of cap space given how poorly he has performed…not to mention the highest paid player on the defensive side of the football.

Don’t expect them to get the absolute best prospects out of the portal. They’ll hit the bargain bin as usual. If it’s the very best guy available at his position, we won’t get him unless said prospect is originally from Louisiana or one of his former coaches are on staff.
Maybe they could get a top quarterback with the pitch of having developed JD5 if Nuss does leave. Other than that, I’m not optimistic. They talked shite about going hard after DT’s in the portal last year and guess what, the price was too much. That’s why the majority of the best enter the portal to begin with.
Don’t get your hopes up.

The most recent contract is typically the highest. Dak Prescott, Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, and Tua Tagavailoa are the 5 highest paid NFL players in 2024. Only one is anywhere near a top-5 QB.

My recollection is that at the time Kelly was still thinking old school and not wanting to overpay in the portal.
That was Then, This is Now.
He is singing a different tune now and will be more aggressive. Having the booty that was intended for Underwood, Phillips, Stewart, and the receivers we chased helps. The guys we bring in during this window will be telling!
The proof will be in the puddin.

This kid not only brings his talent at the position but he also raises the general level of physical play, something our defense needs more than anything! Has an influence on the other ten players. Think Chad and Hiney Badger!

and so it begins. Random Joe blow throws out a must have end of program if we don’t get Name. The rest of the Chads jump on then they’ll melt and hate on the program and Kelly because we don’t spend dumb money. Then next year when the safeties we do sign for loess money have the same ppf rating they’ll hide and never bring it up again.
