Live in Al and know the family. Likes LSU. Comes down to his visit. He cannot imagine the visit will be nothing but fantastic. So leaning LSU heavily. He will be a Tiger.

So let’s assume we get Holman. What will Jay do in order to get the numbers in line? (And I do not want to hijack this thread, but I’m not about to start one that will have ppl specifically calling out names)
In general, maybe a few from last years team? Maybe a few new guys to redshirt? Do injured players count if you do not expect them to make it back?

Lape will RS because of TJ surgery. I'd imagine a few freshman will be asked to RS. Injuries always happen so we will see what happens with that and then maybe you see someone transfer or maybe someone decides to hang up the cleats and become a graduate coach/manager type guy.

The numbers are not that far off as of now. Just have to finish up with the portal and see how it plays out in the fall.

You have to make that decision before the start of the season. Let's use Shores for example. If they don't think he makes it back they can RS him next season but that decision has to be made before the season starts. So if he ends up getting better quicker than expected and is available before the end of the season, he needs to be on the 40 man roster at the start. Hope that makes sense.

Makes sense! Was hoping we could navigate active roster changes throughout the season, but what a risk if we cannot do it. I guess doctors and rehab can give the best chance date.
Speaking of dates, roughly WHEN does that final 40 roster have to be in? First game? One week prior?

Don't quote me on it, but I think it is first game.

with pitching you never know, it will all play out and you will likely have some injuries as most teams have every year

Jake Brown and Cam Johnson are your best bets from the fr class to have a chance to start assuming Johnson is healthy
Jump and if they get Holman would be the portal guys to start
Outside of Hurd on current staff you need to find two starters, I don't think Ack is starter material and Herring may get a look
Cooper is a big loss so the lefty from Xaiver could be that replacement for Cooper

You don’t think ack is starter material? He pitched great in the cws as a starter . Even the game he pitched where we lost wasn’t entirely on him. Why do you say shite like that

Everyone you named is capable of starting and will be in the mix through the fall and spring practices.

Ackenhousen has started his whole life. This season is the first time he has ever been asked to pitch out the bullpen. He showed in the CWS that he is fully capable of starting. That said I think he will be in the bullpen.

My way too early predicted starters are Hurd, Holman, and Jump/Loer. I think one of the freshman start the midweek games. Way too early, my prediction can change as we go through fall and spring practices, especially if Holman does not come to LSU.

I think ack is better out of bullpen and he could have similar role as to what cooper had last year

He had a great start against Tenn, one game, one sample point

It's either opening day or the day before.

I still think there is something there for Collins. He's got a wicked curveball and a low to mid 90s fastball. He can throw a changeup as well. I really want the light to come on for him. If it does, he could be really good.

By the end of the year none of those pitches were above average. The curveball ended up way too often. The fastball was meat. And the change up wasn’t thrown much and certainly wasn’t a go to pitch.

Heading into the year JJ said he was the most improved. I think his opportunities are almost gone.

The guy most likely to move from bullpen to starter is Herring IMO.

I don’t see why you think that. Ack has shown the ability to go deeper into games than herring

38 strikeouts in 29 innings. With a little development, he’s going to be way more than a low leverage mid week guy

Holman was a Friday guy at Bama, but just hearing from other people talking it sounds like he wouldn't be a Friday guy at a place like LSU. More Saturday
