According to 247, they have 0 SRs, 2 JRs, 1 SO and 1 FR on the roster. And signed 3 in this class. That total is one fewer than 247 shows for us, plus they show us as having 5 FRs.

I think you will start to see a lot of players not academically eligible. 18-20 year old with that much cash, probably not going to class.

Eh I would think that there are clauses in these NIL contracts stipulating that you have to at least be eligible to get paid. At least I would put one in if I was the one shelling out the cash.

Bama signing Lewis was more of Saban taking a need away from us than anything else.

Danny Lewis went to Bama for $25,000. That money will be spent long before he enrolls next fall. These kids are going to learn some hard life lessons very quickly.

This is a lie…Saban said yesterday they have NEVER cheated or paid a player.

Standard deduction is 12,500. Maybe 1500. The amount of federal income tax will be negligible. I am wondering how the payment is coded, by both parties. Certainly the players are not employees. Will they receive a 1099, like an independent contractor?

I did hear some of the structure involved in a deal. It was 100K per year, but broken down by semester, including a car allowance, etc. So already, the business are protecting themselves from kids a taking a lump sum of money and leaving...

The numbers don't matter when dollars are the main topic - - College Football will be the NFL alot quicker than later. Kids will be focused on the money and get manipulated. I will never stress because get what you dig as they say. Almost all those choosing money will transfer at some point due to not being happy.

This is probably for the best, let these kids get their actual “market value”, treat them like pros and let’s see if the traditional college model wasn’t better than this one after all.

They signed him to open a lane into Westgate for a player next year.

Especially when the first tax filing comes due next spring. None of these fools is going to set money aside for that.

Rumor is A&M boosters have a structure in place to help these kids/families with managing the tax implications of the NIL deals too.

If you assume that they're considered contractors and say getting quarterly payments, they'll likely pay the kids X amount and help them submit their quarterly estimated taxes at the same time.

Isn’t that still reliant on a player having enough left to pay taxes though?

Which means 6 of them will transfer in the next year or two.

They would "pay" them say $20k each quarter, then before he spends it take $4k and submit his quarterly tax payment for him. So, he'll end up with $16k to spend. If the kid leaves, they'll be on their own to figure out the taxes.

This is all theoretical, but the rumor is that they're helping with money management and taxes, so I imagine it will be somewhere along these lines.

So are you saying he is fine riding the pine at aTm for 4 years while collecting $120K/yr and blowing any chance he has of making 10s of millions of dollars a year for his entire NFL career.

IMO, whether he rides the pine or not, the determination and hard work it took during recent years is now a thing of the past. If they're making bank just being on the team, human nature will kick in and the drive it took to be successful in the NFL 5 years ago will be gone. Book it. Unless the NCAA fixes this NIL and transfer portal bullshite, college football as we once knew it is over.

No that’s not what he’s saying, but most of the poor inner city kids want MONEY, and whining about them taking it IS NOT going to accomplish anything. If you’re 18, poor, never had anything 150,000$ a year to your family will make u do anything. So worrying about a depth chart is futile.
