Maybe. He makes a lot of tackles but that doesn't mean he's doing a good job consistently either. There's spots in the season where Penn has played well but then there's spots he gets abused. Like I said, he's too inconsistent to have faith in him as a starter. Can he progress and get better? Sure but LSU shouldn't wait around if an opportunity is there to take waiting for him to make another jump in progression.
I'd be nervous if he's the starter going into next season.

He started a ton this year
The reason we rotated linebackers is because we used coverage backers for passing teams and situations and used Penn against running teams and on early downs .
Also, Baskerville was supposed to be out for the first three games so he was behind on reps in camp . That’s why he didn’t start early in the year

We are thin, but this is false. Those guys are playing well, particularly Penn. They don't have the upside that Tolan has, but they are solid players.

You said a lot without saying nothing. Congrats.

Penn and Weeks should be backups not starters.
In a great LB group? Yes. But they are adequate players for us to have a great defense if we have good DBs and a great DL.

It is still possible he could remove his name at the end of this.
Yes, it's still possible he could remove his name, just like how we were getting Evan Stewart in the transfer portal and just like we had multiple top-100 overall defensive tackles locked in as silent flips a month before signing day, right?
How do you guys still trust these guys after they are repeatedly and demonstrably wrong with 95% of their predictions? Like it doesn't strike you as the slightest bit convenient that every single prediction these "insiders" ever make is wildly positive in favor of LSU? Jesus, this board is the most gullible group of people on planet earth.

Cmon man, don’t sit here and lie to make your point.
Provide me a link where I said these following things:
Lota said that, not me.
Regarding what I said about Stewart, let me help you out to what I really said:
With the departure of Boutte looming along with Jenkins do not be surprised if we get an chance with another highly rated prospect from jimbo and company. Keep your eye on Evan Stewart.
Regarding inside information:
You don’t have to believe it, nobody is forcing you too. Getting mad about it is not gonna help anything.

It's amusing to me that people think his username is Lota

Not going to disclose everything specifically, but Tolan has been dealing with some things personally, and it is not believed to him being “homesick”.
Assuming this is true, it’s a good reminder that our snap assumptions about players and their reasons for doing things are usually wrong. The first two main guesses on Tolan were discipline issues or tampering/NIL and I’m just as guilty as several of you in jumping to one conclusion or the other.
Sounds like it may be neither and just a kid trying to figure shite out. I hope he stays, but whatever happens, I hope he’s able to find the piece of mind he’s looking for.

I mean what is there to figure out? Drugs?
Posted on 1/5/23 at 3:39 pm to Tigerbait1977
You have no fricking clue, dude can figure it out without entering the portal. No fricking way that is what’s happening here.

Oh please. This has NIL written all over it. He has visits to Auburn, Missouri, and Colorado lined up. Idk much about Missouri’s NIL approach but Auburn and Colorado offer cash up front which is not something LSU does much of except for elite talents.
Posted on 1/5/23 at 6:17 pm to CBP3110
He is already taking visits to other schools. I doubt very seriously he returns to LSU. There has to be more to this story. Maybe he just does not want to be here.

Nah, he’s bag chasing. He’s at Auburn right now. He would’ve been a starting LB for us next year. It is what it is.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.

The problem is we need an experienced LB. LB to rotate with Penn. LB is one of the most complexed positions to learn on the defense. I hope they keep Perkins on the outside. Looking at his PFF grades he was way less effective on the inside. We need an experienced thumper on the inside. And let Perk40 do what he does.
Well. We do know he can cover after being a hs safety.
Posted on 1/5/23 at 6:44 pm to dstone12
Yes we do. I hope they let him roam like Simmons or Parsons and not leave him in the middle.
