With the NIL world and kids making a pretty good paycheck, can you ever see changes to recruiting? If so, what changes would you like?

I believe kids should be able to sign with the school of their choice as early as the start of their Sr HS year and then be able to practice with their college team, for non-contact practices or at least be able to travel to all away games. Their own schedule would dictate that but it would be an option.

I think 2 year contracts are to come. It would guarantee that the player gets at least 2 years to make it at a college before they can ask him to move on and would guarantee the school 2 years with a player before they can opt to look elsewhere. There would obviously opt out for coaches leaving and academic or off the field issues. But players would have an opportunity after year 2 to transfer and again after year 4 if they have a 5th year of eligibility.

Interesting idea, but they wouldn't have time to practice with their own HS team if they did that. But being able to sign earlier, meet, interact, schedule their classes and dorms early, line up tutoring, get athletic and academic counseling pre-enrollment, line up their NIL deals, etc. would make sense.

I think you’re gonna see teams recruiting their home states/areas more with the belief they are less likely to transfer.

Early enrollees can already practice with the teams during Bowl season.

Listened to an interview with an athletic director and he said that he saw the contract templet for 2 years that will be used very soon so that is already in the works.

But that would be too much of an advantage to teams located where the talent is

I don't think contracts are coming, but they should bring back NCAA rules on transferring, as the portal gets over saturated every year with people who end up not signing anywhere.

I would be all for limiting the transfer portal until after 2 years at a school or a coaching change.

Coaching staffs change too much.

I think how offers are given should change. It’s all verbal until August 1st of your Sr year. Then a nice letter shows up (if you’re lucky…my son got a verbal offer but the formal never showed up) and it’s a ‘formal’ offer…with zero details. I’m guessing after the season LOIs will show up (hopefully)…guessing with very little details as well.

An offer should be a contract…that ends up being your LOI.

I’ve always said players should be able to sign whenever they wanted to. Never understood the “signing day” thing as why it logically made any sense.

I don't disagree that the current state of affairs needs some change but I don't think the courts will allow the NCAA to limit movement. The only way you get to limit it is by a contract that both the player and school agree to. For better or worse (mostly better I think), college players are viewed as employees as far as the law is concerned and NCAA can't violate employment law. So just like a plumber can leave one company to go to another, an athlete can do the same UNLESS they are contractually obligated to stay.

Once you commit you have to stay committed no decommitment after a few months. If your really not sure this where you want to be then don’t commit.

Heck, I thought it was lyrics by The Decemberists.

You are correct but not exact. I think their lyric is "As it ever was, so it will be again"

I wasn't trying to make reference to that, as I wasn't even aware that was a lyric.

My man, you realize you have to graduate HS before you can start college, right? We all know that the school part of college football is largely a farce, but last I checked they still make you actually enroll in school to play football lol

They definitely make you take classes to even practice with the team. If you’re slated to start your freshman year you graduate high school and immediately move and enroll in school.

Very few players blow off school as far I can tell. It’s really one of the biggest perks, you basically have a tutor for every single assignment…someone effectively teaches you everything…they’ll do it for you if you DGAF, but that’s a pretty shitty way to go through life.
