I don't want to start another thread on it, but it seems like LSU is doing kinda poorly in HS recruiting as compared to other programs for 2027.
Whats up with that ?

It's multifactorial, but a big part of it is Lane's model that prioritizes NIL money for players that are likely to contribute at LSU in either year one or will stick around until they are developed. He doesn't want to waste resources on guys that are going to sit and get paid for a year and transfer somewhere else without having ever contributed.

It sucks watching all these other programs land elite players, but at the same time, it will make more sense when half of them transfer after 1 season when they don't see the field immediately.

These were always flips in recruiting so that's not new, but NIL has made it 10x worse. Recruiting was always such a big part of what made following college football so fun. A player that was from Louisiana or loved LSU based off of DBU or WRU, or the GameDay atmosphere seems completely gone which takes so much away from the joy of following the sport, and that's before you even bring in the transfer portal. They've destroyed the best sport in history

That said, it’s a better use of money to buy older portal players than true freshman at least on the lines.
Skill positions are a different story. Plenty of elite WRs/RBs are 18. But if you are investing in the line it’s better to spend it on older guys
This is wrong. If you can land ELITE OL and DL players out of high school you do it because their price will only go up. The price for older ELITE OL and DL players is astronomical see Jordan Seaton. And, speaking of Seaton guys in his position rarely transfer.

High school recruiting is like the nfl draft now with the portal being free agency
You only need to hit on about 4-5 guys a year

Not if they are going to be on the bench. You want your money on the field playing

I'm not going to second your opinion but,.....from the beginning I thought it will harder to have success for CLK than it was to get the job. I say give him the time to form a good team and long standing program. He's here now so,.....let's geaux.
The competition is, and will continue to be, really tough. Especially against schools that have large endowments. Recruiting is fundamentally a bidding process now.
I don't think losing a 5 star freshman will make a big difference for us. Especially this year.
